FREAKING OUT!!!!
Ok, it has been a loooooong time since I posted on here. Real life has just gotten too much in the way with my husband having back surgery in July and what not but I am really freaking out here and need some help/advice/suggestions from some other grads. As some of you know I had surgery 8/26/2003. I started out weighing 375 pounds. As of December I was down to 137 pounds which is where I wanted to be. Over the last week and a half to two weeks I have gone from 137 to 146!!! I HAVE NOT changed the way I have been eating. I have not eaten more and have not junked nor pigged out. If anything I have eaten less than I did over the Christmas holidays to compensate for them and get any sugar I may have eaten out of my system. I do not know what is going on but DO NOT like it!!! I don't want to GAIN weight!!! I want to stay where I was!! What do I do? How do I get these nine pounds back off and where the heck did they come from? I am freaking out over here!! I immediately on seeing the scales start to rise have gone into "I knew this weight loss was too good to be true" mode. I always watch everything I put in my mouth and second guess every choice I make so I know there is no way I have consumed enough calories to put on nine pounds. I thought to start with it was jus****er weight or something making it fluctuate and that it would go back down where it belongs in a couple of days. Instead of going down it has steadily risen 138, 142 & 146.......somebody HELP!!!!! I refuse to have my scales go in the upward direction. I am trying to stay focused and continue to eat like I know I should but years of dieting are screaming at me DON'T PUT ANOTHER BITE IN YOUR MOUTH!!! Anybody else had this to happen? If so what did you do about it? What could possibly be causing it??? It may sound bad and no offense to anybody in this weight range but I REFUSE to weigh 150 pounds or more again. I have worked too hard and come too far to go back up now.........
PLEASE HELP ME!!!

This happened to me also. After reaching my goal of 125 in 10 months all of a sudden the scale went up to 129 in a matter of 2 days. I was eating the same and it seemed the more I tried the more I gained. That was a year ago. I have never given up but now I weigh anywhere from 136-140. I am not happy about this and will never stop trying to lose the 12 pounds I gained. Sometimes I just wondered if our bodies want to be at a certain weight. As long as you are aware of how quickly it happens you will never weigh 150. Good luck!!!
I lost to an alarming 114# for my 5'5" frame so I was grateful for those 6-8 pounds gained. But, I don't want to gain anymorefor sure! What is your activity/exercise level these days? I know I slacked off some when I didn't want to lose anymore weight. I guess going back to the fact that to lose we need to decrease calories and increase exercise....
I hope your husband is doing better. I'm sure that was stressful on you, too.

I was told that if we do like we are supposed to that our body will find its set point. I was also told that some lose down lower and then the body adust back upward until it finds its set point. My best friend had surgery 6 years ago and she lost down to a size 4 or 6 and she is tall and bigger framed so she was really too small. Without changing a thing she just started to gain until she was a size 10. And she has now been that size for 4 years and has no problem staying there. So, maybe your body is adjusting to find your perfect set point or weight. But I know how you feel. We all tend to panic over a pound gained because of that fear of going back where we started. Hang in there.
Good luck,
Melissa
Sandi,
Do you have regular exercise in your routine?
That can make a real big difference.
I don't know about the gain. But I see it from some.
Maybe up your exercise to find that balance point between
Calories in vs Calories expended.
If you're eating healthy in appropriate portions, stay with that
And avoid the "dieting mentality" of "Food is Bad!"
Food is Fuel!
Work on the other end of the see-saw for a while,
Because
"Exercise Is Good!"
Even when it has nothing to do with wanting to control weight.
Yes?
Best Wishes-

Also monitor what is going on with your clothes! Are the waist bands getting snug or staying the same?
I find that when I gain a few pounds, its usually from getting a little lax in the water department. If I increase my water consumption, the pounds tend to melt away. I have also noticed that sometimes it can be caused by too much protein resulting in constipation. This happened to me just this week. I have been focusing on increasing exercise (weather has been so nice and rollerblading is my new hobby) and increasing protein. I thought I had been drinking enough liquids, but apparently I was wrong. Fixing that one little thing resulted in a 3-4 pound loss!
Keep doing what you know works for you!
