Rhonda, thank your replying. I guess my first place is to go to a retirement seminar and see what the deal is with the insurance then make decisions after that. I have been networking with friends for input and of course have posted this question and also put it on 3 other WLS boards. I have gotten some great input so far that is very helpful. Thank you, Chris

Chris, I changed jobs three years after my RNY and had no issues with health insurance. If your new employer offers group insurance, I don't belive they can keep you from being insured. I went to work for the University of Texas and I had NO restrictions put on my insurance at all. I knew I had to have knee surgery and they didn't even put a rider on that - I waited til I had been on board a year so I was eligible for FMLA (I had to have six weeks off for recovery) and had my surgery. No problems at all. I have heard of people having problems getting life insurance til they were 5 years post-op but I really don't know if that's true or not. I wish you luck with your new endeavors. Patty

Patty, thanks for the input. All that everyone has posted on this board and others that I put my question has been very encouraging. My husband and I just now need to sit down, pray and discuss the whole issue. Thanks, Chris

Chris, I second what Tooter already said. I worked in insurance for years (in Masachusetts) and if you had a covered procedure under your medical insurance, you should have no problem with follow up care with a different policy. Frankly, some insurance companies think that if they can deny you and get away with, it's $$$ in their pocket. Most companies are ethical, however, and will pay what they should. So if it was a covered procedure or if you have exceeded their exclusionary period, there should be no problem. Good luck on your job hunt!!!! Judi

Wishing you luck with whatever happens I too had an insurance change, about a year after my RNY.....No problems thus far (been over a year) I get bloodwork and all that sort of stuff no questions asked....it is normal healthcare really. I hear the most problems are with people looking for private insurance, you know trying to self insure(self employed or whatnot).....that is when you have to go thru all the health questioneers and interviews and such. Again, best of luck jesi
