Pains meds
pills work for me, but the medications themselves give me problems...I can't take morphine, codeine or a whole percocet. I can take a half a percocet every two hours..but not a whole one every four..how weird is that. For some reason since I've had this surgery these meds cause HORRIBLE secondary pain. Thankfully I can take demerol...it's very strange.

Hi Tooter,
they found melanoma on me last summer and this was the second surgery I've had to excise an area where melanoma was found. They told me I shouldn't need any pain meds but I asked for hydrocodone just in case, but he gave me pills instead of liquid. The pain isn't too bad now but uncomfortable, and regular pain pills like tylenol do nothing for me, and the pills are doing nothing too. Oh well.
Hey, nice new picture!

Thanks Darlene, that's just what I did this morning. I hate asking for this stuff because I don't want my docs to think I'm a druggie, but no OTC or Rx pain pills do anything for me. But the doc called in a 3 day supply of the liquid stuff this morning for me and now I'm doing pretty well.
Thanks!
Michelle
Michelle,
Tylenol pills don't seem to help me with muscle pain but do fine for headaches. I tried the liquid Tylenol after my RNY and gagged! I'd rather have pain than feel queasy!! For severe muscle pain I take Ultram or its generic, Tramadol, also pills. I don't take them too often b/c they make me sleepy and I can't drive so I only take them when I'm ready to spend the day in the recliner or in bed! Hope you feel better soon!

I've had mixed reactions to pain meds. I had a "dental implant from hell" a few months ago and no pain med they gave me did much good. I ended up taking the pain meds every 4 hours and Tylenol extra strenghth every 2 hours between the hydrocodone. Even with over dosing on pain meds I was in constant pain at a level 6 or above on a scale of 1-10. The pain went on for 10 days, the implant rejected on day 11.
However when I had my plastic surgery a few months later I only used the lightest pain med prescribed for me. No real discomfort between prescribed doses of medication. Go figure.
My guess is the infection in the dental implant must have been so severe that nothing would have worked to relieve the pain. I hope I don't ever have to go through that kind of pain again.
I had others respond to a post I did during the dental experience who said they'd noticed that the pain meds only lasted half as long as needed (4 hour pill only helped for 2 hours, etc).
I'm not sure any of this helps you, but just letting you know that you aren't the only one who has experienced pain problems since surgery. Hope this all all behind you soon.
