Keeping it honest - Tue/Wed
actually, this pattern has pretty much been the case since an unexpected hospital stay (actually two ...unrelated to WLS) in July and August, which is why the doc suggested the endo and CT scan ... and both came back fine. So, I'm figuring this has got to be all in my head, and I'm trying to find a way to get back on track, somehow.
Hi Toots,
Even though I slept very late and skipped breakfast, yesterday was pretty good. I had leftovers for lunch - 1.5 oz. sirloin steak, 1.25 oz. smothered chicken, 1/4 baked potato w/squirts of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and 1/4 oz. sauteed mushrooms. Dinner was 1/2 of an 8" ham & turkey Firehouse Sub with 1 oz. Lays Light (FF) Potato Chips. Nightime snack was a small (6") bananna with 2T. whipped peanut butter. I drank 16 oz. Crystal Light and 46 oz. water. That is the first time I've gotten in 40+ oz of water in weeks! 889 total calories and 55g. protein.
Today isn't starting out as well. Pre-breakfast - 16 oz. Crystal Light. For breakfast I ate a small croissant with 2 7/8 oz. Boar's Head Black Forest ham, 1/2 oz. Cream Havarti cheese and 2 oz. cantalope. Already up to 432 calories (22g. protein) and I know we're going to Outback for dinner AND I've scheduled a special "treat" today. I usually shoot for 800-1000 calories but as long as I'm under 1200 calories I don't get too upset.
Today is my 1 year wls anniversary so I plan to treat myself to something I dearly love but have not eaten since my surgery, one HOT Krispy Kreme donut. Unfortunately, I don't seem to dump on sugar but I do on fats & overdoses of carbs so I don't know if I can or will want to eat the entire donut, maybe just enough to satisfy my craving. Pre-op I could (and did) eat 6 within an hour!! I'll see if it tastes as good as I remember. I'm going to try the 3 bite rule and see if that is enough to satisfy me. I know this is not a "healthy" food choice but I believe an occasional "splurge" won't ruin my progress.
Hope you have a better day today!

I decided early on that rewarding myself with food would not be part of my new lifestyle. I gave myself a diamond buckle ring for my 1 year anniversary. I'm now at 2+ years and still enjoying the ring.
I agree though an occasional treat, planned into the daily calorie count is not a bad thing. I waited until I was at goal to start doing this, but do it on occasion now. You are close to goal now and probably need to start increasing your calories anyway. Maintainance takes a while to figure out. Sometimes I think it's harder than the losing phase because adding back calories can easily slip into adding back too many.
We each have to figure out what works for us, but as long as we're eating consciously it should work out. Hey I could eat a whole donut in three bites, so I'm not sure that's a good rule to follow today......grin.
Happy anniversary! Have a great day!
Pat,
I agree with you about food as a reward. In fact, my hubby & I discussed that b/c when he asked what do you want to do to celebrate my first thought was, of course, "go out to eat", immediately followed by "that is NOT the way I need to think now - food is not a good reward!" However, we do eat out frequently (2-4 times a week) so going someplace a bit more expensive is, I think, an appropriate reward b/c I'm doing what I would be doing (food-wise) anyway, just jazzing it up a bit.
Also, I went to my hospital's Bariatric Center later in the day yesterday to get an offical weigh-in on their Tanita scale and I weighed in at 138.5!! I am offically at my original goal (142) and at my "dream weight" (138) goal!! How cool is that!!! I now weigh exactly half what I did the day of my surgery (my heaviest weight).
Wish me luck on the learning the "how to maintain" phase of my new life. I'm going to begin adding more calories and see if the losing stops. I've been aiming for 800-1000, but now I'll shoot for 1000-1200 calories and see how the scale reacts.
Thanks again & any suggestions you've got for maintenance would be greatly appreciated!!

On Tuesday, I had:
1-protein shake MET-Rx Protein Plus 15 oz canned ready-to-drink.
2-clementine
3-homemade turkey noodle soup, heavy on the turkey, light on the noodles, 1 serving whole grain Wheat Thins
4-clementine
To this point, it was 744 calories, 96 g protein, 73 g carbs, 17 g fiber.
Then I got paged as I was walking out the door from work, didn't get to go home until bedtime, and...
... I ate 6 cookies from a box sitting on the kitchen counter, the ones I bought to pass around at a committee meeting at church tonight.
I had cans of protein drinks at my desk, but I didn't drink them for dinner. Although, I probably would have eaten the cookies anyway, even if I had drunk one for supper. I should have just walked in the door and crawled in bed.
I did work out on Tuesday morning before work. And I'm planning on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, too.
Wednesday so far has been better. Had the dentist first thing, so skipped breakfast.
So far today I've had a bowl of beef vegetable soup from the cafeteria at work, made with no potatoes. Haven't decided on the rest as yet.
