Karen, That is interesting. The South Beach diet recommends just what you said. The author/Doctor says that if you should always eat fiber and/or protein with your carbs because it slows down the digestion of the carbs and when keeps your insulin level and thus keeps you from craving.

Hi Dawn, this is the one thing I struggle with so much. It is an uphill battle every single day. I seem to do good for a few days then I do bad for a couple of days. The one thing that helps me is having hot decaf (herbal) good earth tea with milk and splenda. The splenda helps take care of that sweet tooth craving. If I am still craving something sweet I suck on some Sugar free hard candies. Good luck, I think we can all relate 302/155 6"0

Well, in my case this problem turned out to excessive stomach acids and juices (or some such) My doctor has prescribed Protonix and that has done the trick for me. No more waking up ravenous. I thought I was going nutz as I had never been an evening or nightime eater ever. It took about a week or so until the cravings were totally gone, but they are gone now. tee

Night time has always been my downfall and the surgery didn't change the problem. I keep cooked pork chops or meatballs in the refrigerator for this purpose. I microwave 2 oz and eat it. Then if I imagine I'm hungry I know it's impossible and limit myself to sf popcicles. If my hunger is for something sweet I eat an apple which fills my pouch and satisfies the sweet craving. You can do it, just don't give up on those last 30 pounds. We have to find a way to conquer those demons.
