Hello all grads. I need your help...I am basically what you call a lurker however a faithful reader and sometimes poster. I celebrated my one year anniversary yesterday and am 110#'s down with 10# more to reach my goal. Here is the problem...I have been at a stand still since early December and really need to reach my goal. I am beginning to get discouraged and flirting with the carbs. (not sugar just carbs) I have excersized faithfully 4-5 times weekly mixing up cardio and weight training. I have faithfully stuck to my nuts and surgeon's recommendations for eating until very recently....I know its the carbs stiring up the cravings and I need to nip it in the bud now. Do you guys recommend the plateau busters diet and exactly what will it do for me? I assume it will cause ketosis and reduce the cravings but do you guys have any pesonal experience to add to the advantages of trying this approach. I am looking for a way to reach my goal. I know many of you have been through this same senario...how did you handle it? Best to all, Tammie

Tammie--I remember going in to see my doc right around the time of my one year anniversary and he warned me to expect a plateau really soon. He told me that he saw it almost all the time. Needless to say--it came lasted around two months and then I started losing again. Congratulations on doing so well. I figure if you are eating well and exercising sooner or later it will kick back in. The plateau buster diet is a great way to get a kick start--I'm just telling you not to let yourself get discouraged and keep on doing what you are supposed to be doing and you will be at goal before you know it. That's just my two cents.

Gee, I wish my surgeon had spit out such wisdom at my 1 year appointment. I've been plateauing ever since I hit -100 lbs, almost 3 months now. I'm hoping it goes away soon. I've been finding more of those nasty carbs creeping back in, too, so those were all out the door as of last week. Upping my exercise, too. sue O.

Me, personally...I didnt' have a real goal. I set myself to lose down to 200, so that might be the closest thing...and I got down to 167 and last time I weighed I was 183...so...I am still UNDER goal, right? I am afraid that I cannot answer your question, really, BUT I have all the faith in the world that you'll get good support on here. I never worry about numbers but maybe that is why I have gained weight. :-/ Tracy

Switch up your exercise a bit to see if that won't help with the last pounds you have to lose. Drink more water while exercising to see if that won't get you to goal. You've done really well - following the post op rules to a "T" congratulations! I found that I'm still going to eat somethings I shouldn't. Expecting to cut them out for life was unrealistic so I eat some of the things not on the list of preferred post op foods, but I exercise a bit more to burn off the extra calories I take in. It's worked for me - I have to move more to lose the chips I ate - or I can make the decision that I don't feel like exercising more - so I dont get the chips. It's worked so far - skipping the chips all together made me want them more. You have to find out what works for you. You've done great though and put some good habits into place. Myrtle.
