20 MONTHS PO AND LOTS OF QUESTIONS
Hi Bobbi, if you can afford it, I highly recommend hiring a nutritionist. ALthough I can cook up a storm, I was astonished at what I didn't know about truly well balanced and nutritious meals. I have a total of about 12, 45 minute sessions with her over 10 months and feel it was well worth it, and in balance, I was eating so little (and thus spending so little on food) that the cost of these sessions seemed extremely reasonable.
By this stage, I think you really do need good balance of meat/protein, vegies, fruits, dairy, carbs and fat and it does help curb cravings of all sorts. You should also always start your day with breakfast to get your metabolism working right.
There are also some great nutrition books available. I love Corinne T. Netzer's books and the University of California San Diego Nutrition book. You may be able to find several at your local library to see what suits you, and they are available very cheap on Amazon.com. But I would concentrate on general nutrition books instead of something highly specialized.
Good luck. You're doing so great!!!!

I was NEVER a breakfast person before WLS - except on weekends - when it was a huge meal. However, I discovered after WLS a couple of things - first - if I don't eat - my blood sugar will drop to the point I come close to fainting. Second - if I DO eat - then the rest of my day I manage to stay on track w/ my food consumption.
I admit that I generally buy a breakfast taco at the local taco shack. I know many frown on the carbs of the tortilla - but my surgeon says if I am combining some protein w/ the carb and making sure I eat breakfast - to go for the taco.
Days I am in a rush I have a toasted English muffin w/ melted cheese and sandwich meat - again carbs - but I have also found that my stomach tends to react more welcoming to food in the early morning if there are some carbs w/ it. (OK - maybe it is all in my head!!!)
And like Tooter - when really rushed - string cheese.
