Snacks
Larena,
My doc also recommended 5 smaller
"Mini-meals" each day for me.
My doc suggested times about 2-1/2 to 3 hours apart
So that I never actually "get hungry"
And I keep my metabolism running right along.
I'm 6'1" male with medium frame
And my Nutritionist determined a rough Calorie intake
Range for me to fall around 1800 to 2000.
It has worked for me, but I know those
Who strictly eat 3 times a day with nothing between,
Who have also done well.
So- "Go Figure!"
This has worked for me - so far.
Best Wishes-
Dx
I eat 3 meals and 3 snacks per day...except for my one day a week when I eat a whole bunch of crap and throw caution to the wind (if we have not yet met, I am in control 6 days a week and ignore my regimen 1 day per week...works for me). Anyway, I understand the no snacking rule, AND I understand the need to snack...having lived through both trials. When I was a non-snacker I was not so focused on food. I stuck with my plan to eat three meals and was fine with that. My weight loss was pretty rapid. I also came to realize that I was not eating enough throughout the day to maintain a level of satisfaction. In other words, when I sat down to a meal (we always sit because we are people and people sit when they eat...animals eat standing up) I was hungry. Makes sense right? Not for me...hunger leads me to make poor choices based on old habits, sight, smell, etc. Being hungry is not a good state for me.
Realizing this I switched to the 3 meal/3 snack plan. With that said, I stay between 1500-1800 calories. As for the past few months I lose about 2-3#/month which is OK because I am not certain that I am ready for "maintenance" vs. losing a few more pounds...I am 5'3" 131#. I think I would like to be less 129# or under...haven't seen that since 7th grade!
In my humble opinion, I think it best to find a lifestyle that is reasonable, comfortable, and healthy for YOU vs. going on the word of others. Talk with your MD if you are uncomfortable giving yourself liscense to break the rules.
Continued success in the best of health,
Karen
