Do you ever wake up with sugar crashing?
Mornin' Toots. You know I have been seeing an endo for hypoglycemia. he has told me, as well as my PCP, to NOT eat something sweet or with sugar to raise my levels. They are in agreement that it only sets you up for another decline. But, you are so knowledgable I'm sure you know this already. i only posted because i saw where you ate candy in an effort to raise yours. A big spoon of PB would have been better.
This advice is from one who is tired of fooling with the endo and is not going back so take it for what it's worth.
Hi Delores,
I was wondering have you tried non-fat milk for a sugar crash? I read that it can help get levels back to normal just as well as juice and/or sugar. Of course ever since I read that I haven't had a hypoglycemic episode to test it out.
I see a Dr next week about this. I've pretty much figured out that high carbs cause my episodes.

No, I haven't. I only drink milk sometimes with my protein shakes. As a child, I loved the taste of dry milk and would eat it with a spoon but I don't even keep it on hand now. i got so aggravated with my Endocrinologist because he just wants me to keep coming back. My ins. flipped over the first of the year and I have to meet a huge deductible before it pays anything. He had blood work drawn the first time . It was about three or four hundred dollars. But that was in Dec. Only two tests came back abnormal so he scheduled an MRI of my head to check my pituary gland because that was one thing that was abnormal. he said, you can have low sugar but it show up normal when tested because of a malfunctioning pit. gland or a tumor on it. WELL, heck, I am not having this head operated on for nothing. He said the only cure for those kinds of hypoglycemic spells were to remove part of the gland. NO, No, no. I cancelled the MRI . He had me scheduled to return the end of Feb. Of course, it would have been scedule more tests. In other words keep running back for a year and he is two hours away. I am just not going to do it. My mother was brittle diabetic and I pretty much know how to treat myself. Only problem, it seem like nothing workds to raise my sugar or pull me out of the episodes. At times, they have lasted all day and sugar reading be normal. So, unless I go into a coma, I am done with it. i will just suffer and do the best I can.
I thank you for posting this! Sadly enough - fats and sugars combined (like found in pb - even natural pb) can make me dump. I didn't want to ingest anything that could even remotely make me dump. The candy I chose was fat free (junior mints) and thankfully, no dumping ensued. I'm going to try what someone else suggested using glucose tabs. I'll keep them in my purse to see if that combats it. Thank heavens I don't dump often! Ugh.
I'm sorry you're having trouble with your endo. (((HUGS))) and really, thanks for posting!
Hi Tooter,
Your expierence sounds just awful..I have only dumped a couple of times and it has been mild and passes quickly. I had really wished I would dump to have a little built in will power, lol...but I don't and thats okay too.
I do have anxiety attacks and the way you and many other describe dumping is very similar to my anxiety attack so I really feel for you.
Glad you are feeling better.
Take care,
Melissa
If I had to guess what occurred, your 'dump' is bouncing. Imagine this: you eat sugar. You get the predictable insulin release, followed by low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), followed by something called neoglucogenesis, where your liver makes some new sugar to counteract the low. It would be nice if that was the end of it. But think about an echo of all of this. That neoglucogenesis response precipitates a secondary low, albeit less than than the first. Repeat cycle until it blood sugar finds its stasis.
Theoretically a possibility.

This is a very interesting thread. I've been having, what I assume are, hypoglycemic attacks. I get weak, dizzy and shakey. I seem to do better if I eat every 2-3 hours. I haven't been able to pinpoint what triggers it yet but I think I will start keeping a food diary like Sherry said. Maybe that will help me pinpoint it. Today it happened in Wal-Mart. I wasn't sure I was going to make it home so I got peanut M & Ms. At least they have protein in them! I know that's not the best and try to avoid using them for that, but when you're in Wal-Mart, what's a person to do, pass out??? In the olden days, I used to have problems like this. It's really a pain if you never know when it's going to hit. I really need to talk to my doc about it. I will after my TT on Tuesday. One thing at a time.
