Do you ever wake up with sugar crashing?
This is a cross post from the main board.
I ate a dinner, sadly high is sugar (about 29 to 35 grams!) and of course, dumped because it was also high in starch (starch + sugar = major dumping for me). So I went to bed. Woke up 4 hours later, rapid heart rate, sick and shaky. What happened I'm sure is my sugars were crashing. I got up, drank some apple juice, one of the rare times I drink juice and waited it out. Still sick and shaky - had more juice and a piece of candy. Ok, better now. Sigh....pretty freaky stuff sometimes. I KNOW better than to go to bed when I'm dumping. If I sleep more than an hour I wake up to a sugar crash. Normally, when I have this, I can doze in the recliner for a while - get up, eat something nutritious and I'm ok. WHY WHY WHY DID I GO TO BED!
So am I the only one this happens to?
Mine doesn't happen exactly like yours. But I've been having hypoglycemic events for the past two months. It happens to me whenever I've had too much carbs. About a few hours afterwards, my blood sugar takes a nose dive and I feel horrible! A fingerstick showed my blood sugar at 39 the last time, not good.
I have an appt with a Dr next week, but I've already discovered my triggers. Carbs! *sigh*
Oh and I did read that a glass of non-fat milk will return levels just as effectively as juice or candy. Which is cool for me, because I despise orange juice, which is the only kind we usually have on hand.
lol the problem I've got with milk is more than a couple tablespoons sends me crashing. Not good. Juice doesn't have fat - and neither to the Junior Mints - so I get the sugar, but not the fat (that combo makes me crash and burn). Otherwise, I'd prefer milk lol.
I hope your doc has some good words for you...but at least you know what triggers it. I usually do ok on the Marie Calendar sweet and sour chicken, but I normally only eat about 2 bites of the rice with it...umm I ate ALL the rice this time. Don't know why - just did and well not good results. I won't be doing that again soon! Ugh.
Thanks for sharing your experience with me!
Well, I'm glad to know that you are feeling much better...even if you are not resting.
I wish I could figure it out, too...even my endo is puzzled. I figure, with her education, if she can't figure it out, I doubt that I can. I just continue to log my food daily and put a red X on the days that it happens and take it to her every month. Don't really know what else to do... She believes that it's directly linked to the insulin resistance; but, is still working on what triggers it...
Now I want Chinese!

Here's the deal..you and Carolyn (celtic rose)...you're both just WEIRD! I lubbs ya both, but you're freaky and weird lol.
Don't thump me too hard hehe. Seriously though, it is an interesting thing...frustrating I'm sure to live with, but from the outside looking in, it's intriguing. IF you guys ever do figure it out, I'd love to hear the results. (((HUGS)))
***Gentle thwack!***
I prefer the term 'unique'...
Wanna hear something REALLY weird? I swear that Alexis has already said her first word..."Hi!" She's done it more than once and always when we are saying "Hi!" to her. I KNOW that it is just a mimic; but, WOW!
I will definitely keep you posted on whether or not we ever figure it out. It IS frustrating; but, IMO it's a good trade-off for what I have 'gained' through WLS. Even if I do ultimately become Diabetic, as my endo is grudgingly predicting, I wouldn't trade this 'normal life' for (almost) anything. Becoming Diabetic was a CERTAINTY pre-op...now, it's just a possible threat down the road.
