I have much pain when I try to excercise in the hip area that can lead to major pain for days. I am on 4 different pain killers at the moment to control this issue. Even walking does me in. What can I do to burn the calories off to get the last 30-35 pounds off? I am at my surgeon's goal weight, but not my PC's or my personal goal. Clothes are becoming a medium size - out-shrinking the larges, so I know I am loosing inches still. I can not even do Pilaties or yoga. The reprocusions are just to painful. Any suggestions? Please! I have been havin gtrouble with my hip. it was interfereing with my activities, keeping me awake nights etc. I went to an orthopedic Dr. and had it evaluated. He did a cortison shot into the hip joint and it hurt like hell. but 3 days later the pain stopped completely. I took about a week off exercising, and have modified my workout routine somewhat. I can now do yoga pain free in my hip. My suggestion is see an orthopedic doctor and have it evaluated. He can treat it and if necessary order physical therapy. The PT can help you get back to an exercise routine that will work with your body.

Have you thought about swimming. I know water aerobics is very low impact. I do hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Bridget

wonderful idea, and if she can find a place with a warm pool it would be really great. My health club has one and it is great for the water aerobics for the people with arthritis too!

I too had terrible hip pain about 6 months back and got a cortisone shot into the bursa and went through physical therapy. Now I am back to exercising 4 days a week. I just have to limit the treadmill. I mostly bike, spin, or do the eliptical machine along with weight training. Good Luck. Lori 280/141

If it doesn't bug your hips, floating on your back in a pool is great for strenthening stomach and back muscles. Amazing how many aren't aware of the clenching and unclenching we do while floating Water walking Bands and tubing for upper body strength exercising Can you clench and unclench your buttocks? Or your thighs? Or bend your toes up - kind of a reverse-clench, then curl them, tightening up your calf muscles. Release. Putting 2 pound weights on your ankles. Sit and gently lift and lower you legs (from the knee, not the hip). If it aggravates your hips, then do stop, but it shouldn't. Anyway, my hips 'pop out' quite often from scoliosis, so I can kind of relate. Will your insurance cover physical therapy? They're great for coming up with exercises people with special physical needs. (((HUGS)))

I have had 3 epidurals the first they directed to my hips that helped that and the other 2 facet injections were directed to the back pain..I started off walking the the water heated pool.. and it has been the best I go just about every day and most days I go 2 times...I have gotten alot of my strength back.. The more I don't move the worse it was getting and the pain the first 3 days in the pool I just knew I was going to fold in half... I am taking neorotin and surprising as its not really a pain med but it helps the nerves and I'm off the pain meds..I will lite a candle for you and say some prayers... Wendy
