So is this a joke?? You're not starting a rumor that I'm pregnant or anything, are you???? I AM 16 months post-op, after all. Seriously, congratulations and I don't see why protein shakes would be bad, but any and all prenatal nutrition questions ought to be directed to a professional. I'm highly allergice to kids, so I'm glad it's not ME that's preggers! Jan

Don't you think sometimes that you should ask the professionals and then also use your own judgment?? You would know if your baby was growing quite big and could cut out the protein, but couldn't it also be that you just grow them big?? Sorry about the early "congrats". Jan

In rereading the above post, it reads a bit sarcastic, but I didn't mean it that way. I meant that I think we should ask the professionals and then we need to use our own judgment because they don't even agree between themselves!!! They are trained, but they aren't perfect!! Jan

If you were obese you may have been insulin resistant. that allows your blood sugars to run higher and in combination with pregnancy even more so. the high sugar crosses the placenta allowing the baby to take full advantage. and they are making thier own insulin to move that sugar right into thier little cells. when a woman is insulin resistant or has gestational (pregnancy induced diabetes that goes away after delivery) diabetes the babies get quite big, and the diet they recommend is plenty of protein and limited carbs.

Hi, Just wanted to say my first 2 sons were well over 10 lbs when I was 320-350lbs....but my last baby I had was 4 years post-op and he was 6lbs and 15 oz....so tiny compared to the other two...I just knew he had to be unhealthy...but he was healthy as they come. My pregnancy went great, but I never did the protien shakes....Good luck! Christy Myers from MO

a pregnant person needs even more protein than a non pregnanat person. pregnancy is not the time to cut back on any nutrients except junk food. High sugar intake will be far more of an issue. If I were pregnanat I would do shakes and I do not now.

My grandchildren love the protein shakes. I have some in my support group that feed their children the protein shakes and bars instead of junk foods..... Darlene

I have one suggestion....post on the postop pregnancy board They are there, done that - ya know? I know that the biggest concern with protein supplement in 'normal' pregnant women is they often don't get in enough complex carbs and fats - but for "US" I could see the having the protein supplements would leave you more able to eat complex carbs and fats into your diet better. Good luck!
