Stupid Post.
Well you know what opinions are like, and yes we all have one. And of course I'm no exception so here I go!
My take on the individual boards is that they were set up to discuss specific issues, but I have never viewed any of them as being exclusive. You see a distinction between some of them Tek, but to me they are all the same.....just specialized boards dealing with the same general topic.
Yes indeedy I was one of the gals *****ceived severe reprimanding when I dared to post on the men's board in the beginning. I had heard nothing about it's grand opening prior to the big day and when I popped over and left a 2 sentence post simply asking, "I didn't know this board was here, what's it all about?" I got a few emails that to be quite frank shocked me in their rudeness. I guess I hadn't realized that any of these boards (or to be more specific some of the folks ON the boards) were so territorial.
On the same hand I recently saw a newby on the main board in much the same situation. She was asking about the grad board as she had never heard of it and didn't know it existed. I did a double take when I saw someone tell her she was not to post over here. I then explained to her that the grad board was made for post-ops who were further out and that the discussions here were geared towards issues and problems that occur later down the road. I also told her that if she had a question she couldn't get answered on the main board that I was sure someone over here would be happy to answer it for her.
Perhaps some of these "strays" are like me. Perhaps they aren't aware that they're not welcome.

You're right, of course.
So we can post pornagraphy here. It is so easy to just click on the next message if you don't want to answer it.
Obviously, these things are at the opposite ends of the scale, but it is nonetheless the same scale. Neither has a place on a board for grads to discuss grads issues.
Really, its the discussion of a principle. Newbie posts on a Grad board, Christian posts in an A/A board, Athiest posts on a Christian board, Womens posts on a mens board, really don't mean a thing in the scheme of things. The PRINCIPLE, on the other hand, does.

On the Mens board specifically, and many others in general, its in how it is presented.
My recollection may be a little out of sequence but really I think a lot of the problem was in how OH announced the board.
When it first started, it was a Place for the Men to hang out, free of Female influence. It went quietly for a few days.
Then they Announced the Mens forum as a place to discuss mens issues. The women showed up. Some men said no, this is for men only (as they had been told). The women said, no its mens interest, men is the topic. There apparently was a lot more going on that I missed.

I remember making a SIMILAR post but I certainly didn't tell anyone that she couldn't post over here. I told the person i responded to that the Grad board was for people over a year out but I didn't say, DO NOT POST. So I don't know if you are talking about me or not.
I have sat here for 30 minutes reading all the replies to your post (maybe my first mistake). It took a while for this post to come up since so many replies were received, also.
Although the question is a good one and the answers are all legit, I think one good answer would be for the majority of the answerers to pick a place in the nation and get together for a jolly discussion on all these issues. Has anyone thought of that here? It takes up a lot of space on the board.
Just a thought (maybe I'm just in a nasty, picky mood today) I need to eat my 2nd meal and I'm feeling testy.
It just seems like a few people spend a whole lot of time on this board. Does anyone have anything else to do. It's fun, but come on people, I spend hours here just reading, more or less replying!!
Peace
Marilyn
Dear all:
I apoligize as an addition to my post above. I forgot to mention that I'm very compulsive and that's why I wander through for hours. The "titles" are the things I look to when I look at posts, to answer your question (was this the post that asked that???) Just in case someone will say in answer to my post "why stay for hours then, don't you have something to do?". Yes, I'm supposed to be working as a secretary (for my dh), which I am, but compulsed and intrigued by what was posted today. Does any of this make sense. I also have to take down the tree, paint and stain wood (that's been on my list of to-do's for a while). Obviously, I pick my compulsivities. I enjoy you all!!! Keep up the in-depth thinking as I don't get a whole lot of stimulation around here!

OK now you have completely lost me.
On the one hand you are saying "get a life people" while on the other you are sharing how you choose to use this board for avoidance and entertainment...which I think you are telling us is a good thing.
You also mention that you are compulsive. By way of the first post I would venture to say impulsive. Not sure what changed your point of view in the second post.
As I said, I am confused.
Then again...it's kind of fun to stay that way...so feel free to not clear the air.
