I, too, tend to pass over "stray" posts. The funny thing is that every single one I've read would have gotten more and better responses from the Main board. Tek

I've noticed it too and it makes me feel a little boardless... I like feeling like a graduate.... eventho I am one year out +, I still have a few to lose.... Just a thought, but perhaps the commonality is not so much as MO, but people who take the unconventional road ie: wls? Ya know, always looking for something a little more special, a little more than what they already have... But then again, even wls is becoming conventional.... I used to go to an author's board and it happened there too...published/nonpublished..... Maybe it's human nature...grass is alway greener kinda thing..... Both boards slam, flame, hate email and often make me think, laugh, sigh.... hmm...maybe not that different? Laurie - minus 174 lbs!!

Hmmm... I often tend to go for immediate gratification rather than denial now for a greater good later. Its the immature "I'll take a nickel now rather than a quarter tomorrow" thing. I wonder if that somehow plays into "strays" or my perception of them. I also wonder if the "quick fix" idea that WE are not trying to get through WLS plays into this somehow. I also wonder that since many of us have been excluded from the reindeer games, that now we may make a point of not being excluded. Ok, this one is still forming in my mind. Tek

I learned the hard way - was so excited about the atheist/agnostic board as I LOVE to study religions, lack of religions, and the human 'essence' but was quickly informed and respected the "Go Away Tooter, we're not here to educate you" Posts I received in reply. I apologized and have never posted again Ah well - I guess some have manners, some don't have and some don't WANT to have any...and that can go both ways...ya know?

I remember your Atheist adventure and recall being saddenned by the response you got. I had a different concept of that forum than the others had, I guess. Hmmm, for consistencies sake, I should include your Athiest post(s) in with my thoughts on this topic. So why don't I? I think it is because at the time, I didn't perceive that board as confined only to Athiests/Agnostics, but a board more to discuss it, by everyone. I looked at it like the Running message board, which is FOR Runners and those interested in running also. I think it also has to do with how the Boards are PRESENTED... I do think the Grads is presented as Grads Only. Mens is Men Only. Over 50, 40s, 30s, 20s are for those demographics. Lightweights, 50+ BMI is for those folks. Running, 4-Wheeling, Opera, Sci-Fi boards would be those interested in these things. OK, These distinctions are mine, but they seem clear to me. But then I overthink everything. Realistically, since there are no rules, every board here is really for those interested in it. I "know" which boards are demographic and which are interest boards, but perhaps not everyone makes the same distinctions I do (go figure ). Tek

LOL I was saddened too! I still lurk there though. Why? Because I don't want to offer prayers to those who might not want them. Weird huh? I see it's a pretty dead board. Sad. I'm glad, by the same token that the men's board stays pretty active, with 99% men posting, etc. I LOVE the BAF and singles board. They seem to openly welcome everyone, regardless of status, sex, creed, color, etc. Like one gal from BAF told me, I've got black soul. Now I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I was quite honored by the comment I won't ignore newbies who post here. I know this is the ONE place they can find older postops who might be able to assist them - of course, I won't bother answering posts they could and probably SHOULD post to the main for general population - but then I tend to not answer those in email either and refer them back to the boards. IF the question posed is long-term specific, then I'd be glad to reply. Same as if I had a problem that only a guy could answer...I'd post it first to the main and if answers were insufficient, I'd hop to the men's board and hope they'd not tar and feather me for seeking knowledge. IF I had an atheist friend who I needed an answer for, I'd probably brazenly post to the A/A board and hope that because it was "on topic" that someone there would kindly reply without judgement of why I dare post there. Am I rambling again? I think I need to up my B vits - I've been rambling LOTS lately lol. You certainly do inspire some deep thinking!

Just as Dx pointed out that we can't paint all MO with the same brush, we also can't do that with all "strays". There are those that are simply misdirected, and directing them to the right place seems appropriate. These would also not be the folks I am thinking of. Its the "I know I'm not supposed to post here, but..." crowd, which are a horse of a different color. The A/A went through a phase of Anti-Christian posts, then once reallizing that wouldn't fly, it died. Unless you are going to discuss A/A, there is not a whole lot to say.... There is no God... Yup.... I think it would have been better to actively discuss A/A and the reasoning that goes into it. Unfortunately, there were a fair share of "Turn back to God and you will be..." posts. The A/A folk also tended to assume that since we agreed there is no god, that we agreed on politics. If I had a question for... oh... gosh, can't even think of a group that I don't already have all the answer for ... How about BAF... I don't think I would post it there. Then again, I don't think I would post it anywhere, I would google it to get my information. I ramble too. My B's are fine, Its just this or work today Tek

My claim to fame, isn't being overly intelligent...it's being the Goddess of Google I too google to get my info, or hit the college library when google fails to gather what I need. However, there are times you (or rather, I) want a more personal perspective. Sigh...well anyway, I hear you on the A/A issues. Mores the pity eh? I wish more people could learn to productively 'debate', tolerate some good natured heat and answer intelligently with their brain rather than with thier mouth...or stay the heck outta the kitchen...but most can't do that. Hence, the no debative posts rules. Ugh.

Dame T, You confirm my belief That a message meant for you to read Could be left on the Pine Needle Crafts Or Bass Boat Repair forums And be picked up within the hour! I too am a forum surfer. BAF mostly because of the High concentration of Atlanta folks news there. (My old stompin' grounds) I went from being a "Full Time Reader/Lurker" To a "Part Time Selective Poster/Replier." I actually spent far more time on the "boards" as a reader Than I ever have since. But I'm reticent to drop a Reply on many boards And even more so, a Post. I join you in not necessarily skipping or ignoring The occasional "stray." Many times on the Men's Forum for example, Someone is posting there specifically to get "The Guy's Take" on a question. Since that first shaky start when some of the gals were There "shopping for a man," Which caused all sorts Of wild responses and reactions to reactions, There've been very few "mini-dramas" there. Typically caused by that difference of perception factor That seems to be inherent in - What one sex says versus, what the other one hears. Many Women drop by for Advice from the Boyz And are met with positive support. I also buy into Tek's notion that some forums Imply - "Us Folks talking to/about Us" Where others imply "This thing We share an interest in." So that's how I can stop my rambling? More B's?!? Best Wishes- Dx
