Am I a freak?
You know my feelings on this subject. You know most of the doctors feelings on the subject. No one is right or wrong. To do or not to do.....the answers are in the labs. It's the hidden values in the labs that tell the stories. When you get to 3 years and on. Even being 110% compliant doesn't always work. I am willing to donate my body for research on this topic when I die. Constant pain. Thoughts of wheel chairs, etc....my body needs supplementation.
Where are the studies that show we don't need supplementation? that show how much of the nutrients we do absorb from our food we eat. Can we really eat that much food to get our daily needs met?
Good luck on your quest for validation. This is one topic that we are never right nor wrong. This is one topic that is getting to be like religion....we don't talk about because of the ongoing debates and the enemies we make from it.

Don't really need validation on it. Just got tired of my name being used as a volleyball on the topic to discourage others from doing what their doctor was telling them to do, what they'd decided to do, etc. I don't discount that some need it. I don't discount the validity of supplementing IF one chooses to do so - and I am not 100% sure that I am not going to someday need it or even regret my choices - as with most of my choices. There is risk. There is risk to those who chose caltrate over citrate. Poop happens. We make the choices we can live with.
I DO appreciate your opinion - not your validation. Thanks, really, for chiming in Darlene - and I truly hope you always stick around here to bop people (including me) when you think we need it. I hope I've never led you to think otherwise.

From One Freak to Another
I would rather get my protein and calories in from EATING......The protein shakes dont do anything for me...I think I have literally tried them ALL and truthfully I have not enjoyed any of the flavors...I have lost over 100 pounds and have maintained it for over 2 years ...so far so good.....
Happy Hanukah to you and to your family..
with love and peace

Count me in on the freak list. I lost 150 pounds without shakes. I use to do a few bars in the first year. I couldn't stomach the shakes for the first 6 months or more as every type made me literally sick. I can sort of stomach them now and do have a canister in my kitchen but I rarely drink one (I take them out when doing a carb detox). I always think I SHOULD drink them. I always INTEND to drink them, but in reality, I've had very few over the last 4+ years.

Hello.... I am almost 2 years out and I tried all kinds of protein drinks right after surgery ... I did not find any i liked... So I get my protein from eating.... I eat like 6 times a day and have done very well with that... I have lost about 185 pounds and have been stable for a while now.. I am like you tooter i do not go to the gym .. but i do stay busy all the time... I Hope every one has a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year... Brenda...
Well hello Miss Tooter,
I just came across this board and this post, and will add my two cents...
I have never had a protien drink or even a protein bar. I believe I tried one at a support group meeting but can't remember if that was pre-op or post....My most recent bloodwork results could not have been better. I am a little over 1 year out and have lost 122 lbs. from a starting weight of 273 lbs.
Hope your holidays are merry and bright!
