What Do You Think??
Darlene, I said "NORMALLY I would say..." and that's because normally that would be my opinion. If a person isn't part of the solution, they shouldn't moan about the problem, in my opinion. But like I also said "I have to agree with the general sentiment here."
I agreed with what you said and what the others said. I wish the wisdom of our experience would help others, and it WILL help some, but some just don't want to hear it. You were RIGHT when you posted what you did. I hope you didn't think I was insulting you and I do applaud you and others who try over and over to get through to the Main Board. Let's face it, I gave up on the Main Board a long time ago!! I'm constantly amazed there are Grads on there still fighting the good fight. Tooter's name springs to mind among others....
By the way, I think what you did for your surgeon and your own support group is remarkable to say the least!!!
I do think it is important to share experiences/challenges/successes along the way, but I have often found the main board to be difficult and frustrating. Not because of the post/reply relationship so much...but because the medium is interfering with the message. I have gotten ***** slapped for telling it like it is, and double dutch ***** slapped for replies that are interpreted in a completely different way than I meant. I don't know why the main board is such an issue...maybe because the questions seems so simple having lived and breathed the experience and moved beyond. Often I feel somewhat guilty poking fun at those on the MB, after all there was a time when all of this was new. The difference for me was that I approached my WLS as an informed/educated patient.
With that, I rarely go to the MB and when I do I often count to ten and decide if I really want to get involved...and often choose to move on and remind myself that there by the grace of god go I.
hmmm...maybe I will have to mix it up a bit and take it from there. I could try:
You people are incredibly selfish and ridiculous! Who the freak died and made you the WLS royalty of the virtual universe? Big ass whoop that you are all so delightfully thin and gorgeous and successful...you can never forget where you came from if you are to know where you are going. Get the hell off your high horse (the one that you could not have lifted your fat ass aboard a few years ago) come back down to earth and remember that not so long ago you were fat and stupid and either very rigid or snuck chocolate/wendy's chili/pureed domino's/vodka as a clear liquid/etc. Never forget that the difference between you and the newbie is that you had your surgery first. Congratu-frickin-lations! You saw the light. Hey, maybe you did some research and maybe they didn't. Isn't the world a wonderful and diverse place? Some of us take control. Some of us cannot rise above our role as "victim." Some of us can see beyond ourselves, and can take a deep breath and extend the helping hand of friendship.
