The victim mentality! That's it! That subset of passive aggressive helpless sheep that want someone to hand them a magic fix that will solve all their problems without them actually having to invest much thought or effort. Being the victim explains the 'rebel against the surgeon' attitude too ("WHY do I have to supplement? I just can't REMEMBER to take all my vitamins, and anyway, I feel FINE!" or "WHY do I have to stay on liquids? Did YOU have to do liquids? because I can eat solids just FINE") Hmm... I'm sounding cranky today. Linda

I can't blame the surgeons so much anymore. Some post ops flat don't pay any attention to the stuff that's given to them and just reach out here for answers. Case in point: Our surgeon gives out a thick folder with all the protocol we need, and we also get a detailed folder from the nutritionist and.....they hold 2 support group meetings every week, one at noon and one in the evenings and we have an active support site. Soooooo why do we still have patients who are clueless and ask the dumbest questions that are all answered there in the books? Our patients simply aren't reading their material or think it's not that important until after surgery when they probably tossed it out. I think more of this goes on than we know about and the poor docs get blamed when it may not be the case----at least some of the time. I'm sure there are plenty of docs out there with less than sufficient post-op support. But this happens to us in our surgery group and sometimes I just want to scream.

I got a large binder full of info too, but I know several people who had surgery with a Dr. who gives them nothing. He cuts ther guts and sends them on their way. lots of docs jumping on the WLS money train with out the program of support the patients need to succeed.

I HAD to go read the yesterdays posts.....I am gonna go back and read some more.....they were good Last time I posted to one of these post I offended someone ......But I totally agree with JoAnn, it seems like doctors are not doing what they should be doing/or the patient has cottonballs in there ears.......I couldn't imagine going into this risky TOTALLY life altering surgery blind.....it does blow my mind how some folks know NOTHING!!! One of the topics I can relate too....I had no clue my menses where going to be SO OUT OF WHACK that I would need a hysteretomy(at only26)....Yeah I was informed of the stored estrogen and all that stuff, but that was a shocker!!!! But some of the others are mind blowing and I too find I am often hitting delete I guess I am super fortunate that my surgeon was very thorough and gave me everything I needed and that I WAS MY OWN ADVOCATE and did some research and asked a million questions! Anyways.....stick around and do all the laughing and crying...if your getting some kind of support or giving some support it is worth it! Take Care jesi

I HAVE BEEN POST OP FOR 4YRS AND I AM DOING GREAT, BUT I THINK YOU ARE ALL BEING VERY UNFAIR TO ALL THE NEW POSTS, WE HAVE TO REMEMBER, THEY WERE US AT ONE TIME, YOU ALL CAN NOT TELL ME THAT YOU HAD THIS THING ALL FIGURED OUT WHEN YOU WENT INTO IT, IF YOU DID I AM IN THE WRONG CLASS OF PEOPLE, GIVE THESE NEW ONES A BREAK, REMEMBER PEOPLE MIGHT HAVE BEEN AGGRAVATED AT US AND LAUGHED AT US TOO, I PERSONALLY ENJOY TALIKING TO THE NEW ONES AND I WILL CONTINUE TO HELP THEM EVEN IF THEY ASK THE SAME QUESTIONS OVER AND OVER, THINK ABOUT IT GUYS AND GALS, ARE WE REALLY BEING FAIR TO CRITICISE THESE NEWBIES, LOVE YA ALL, BRUCE

I would disagree Bruce, I was not where the newbies spoken of in this thread are. See, when I came to AMOS, I read. I read profiles. I read todays posts, and paged back, and back, and back, and back, and bank. AND BACK. I googled everything WLS (That Chicago Radio station really became annoying). I did not ask a question that had been asked in the previous 30 (likely more) days, or talked about anywhere else on the internet. I CERTAINLY did not read a post about hair loss, then ask the exact same question. I actually DID ask my surgeon. I actually DID pay attention to him. I actually DID listen at the seminar where he discussed EVERYTHING. Incidentally, I came out of the seminar knowing pretty much everything I needed to know, while I heard others complaining they didn't get ANY information and their examples were, in fact, covered. Even then, there were new post-ops asking questions that I can't believe they had surgery not knowing the answer to. I new the answer, I could have answered, but chose not to. See, I only answered questions I had the answer to AND had experienced. Pre-op, I COULD answer questions about Aetna. I could answer questions about Why I chose surgery, what its like to be fat, because I experienced those things, even though my experience may have been different. Pre-op, I knew the post-op answers and possiblities, so I knew what I might encounter, and knew what I would do about it. I didn't tell post-ops this, I left it to others that had EXPERIENCED it to tell, and then soaked that up. I didn't "vent" about the fat insult dejour, as so many do. So, NO, I was not like "them".
