Hungry?

I just had my 1 year visit with the surgeon and we were chatting about how things are going. I told him I still do not have what I would identify to be indications of hunger, and he was sorta surprised. He said I must be snacking a lot, but I'm not. I normally have protein at each meal, and sometimes a small amount of a high protein something for a snack, getting in 80-100 grams protein per day. I've not tested out how far I could go until I get some sensation that would be identifiable as "hunger", but I have had days when my schedule imploded and I didn't have time to eat for 18 hours and didn't feel hungry. Any body else out there not hungry? Sue O.

I haven't been hungry in 5 years since I had the surgery. I was told I wouldn't after the bypass and I haven't except for head hunger. I now have to eat by the clock and if I miss a meal I don't think of it because I'm not hungry. I think lots are like that - many think they feel hunger but could be the head playing games.

I wish. If I miss a meal I get ravenously starving wolf hungry. Like I could bite a human hungry. lightheaded and shakey. I know I get hypogycemic. cold sweats, shakes, light headed are certainly not signs of "head hunger" prior to 9 months post op I didn't get hungry at all. after a year post op, I simply must eat on schedule or I get so hungry I lose control. I think for some people hunger may not return, maybe there is a nerve that carrieds the sensation that is severed and does not regenerate and they for whatever reason can maintain their blood sugar and not become hypoglycemic. Still others are just not used to listening to their body and reading its signals. That take time and lots of practice and there are times I mis read my body as well. that is when I get into trouble.

I woke up from surgery hungry! My surgeon says, "It happens." At first, I thought it was head hunger but it's never stopped and I get the same light-headed, nauseous feeling I used to get if I don't eat. I too eat by the clock but for the opposite reason - if I don't, I'd eat all day. Sometimes I envy those who don't feel hungry but this surgery has been such a wonderful tool, I just try to stay grateful and count my blessings (which are many). Judi
