Monday Morning Question?
Well, I was born deep in the heart of Dixie, where I learned to talk. My voice is fairly high but I have never lost mah twang. These folks up here will say "Yer not from around here, are you?" And I ask them what was their first clue! I don't have as thick a drawl as those from Dallas do, but there is no mistaking that I'ma Magnolia Blossom!
Hmm, I don't really know how to describe my voice except to say that it sounds very different than what I hear when I speak. I think my voice sounds pretty young as people telemarketers ask to speak with my Mom or Dad. I guess I have a New England accent, even though I tried really hard to rid myself of it when I studied broadcasting.
Now my friend Joanne--she sounds just like my mother's best friend from when I was growing up. She grew up in the north end of Boston also. Kind of husky--and super strong Boston accent--not the Kennedy kind.
My buddy Charlie C., a Florida native, has the sweetest voice you can imagine. Soft and gentle--something I did not picture at all. She may have a link on her profile where she is speaking before wls. Thank goodness the surgery didn't change that.
I have a fairly neutral accent although when I worked in Alabama for a couple of years they use to call me a Yankee and tell me to SLOW DOWN GIRL cause I talked WAY TOO FAST (y'all).
However, I must sound young since people will occasionally ask me if my Mom is home when I answer the phone. "Hi honey, is your Mom around?" "No, she's not here right now, she left me all alone".
I purposely attempt to pitch my voice lower when I answer the phone at work so people will know I'm a PROFESSIONAL dang it!! Wahhhhhhh!!!! I AM a grownup, I AM!!!!
