I am in Jay's old neck of the woods....but grew up kinda close to the MN border I never thought I talked weird.....but when I go to the west coast to visit family....they say I do I think it is more of the terms we use rather than the sounds....who knows! I don't think I sound like anyone. But I have always been told I have a deep voice and that I would make a very good ******** operator Not sure that is something to be proud of tho???? It is funny, I feel the same....as I read a post from Jo-Ann I can just hear her voice.....It is way weird....Take Care .....neat question! jesi

Well, I am from kentucky and have lived many different places. I have traveled the world. I have never lost my accent nor have I ever tried to disguise it. yet, I don't talk like most of the people in Kentucky. When I lived in Detroit, people would say to me, "say something". They would usually tell me I sounded like I am from Texas or Georgia. No one ever guessed Kentucky. The only change I have ever noticed in my speaking voice is when I travel to South Carolina, (South Cowlina). I can be in the state less than an hour and I catch my self speaking just like those folk. My voice is deep and soft. I have been mistaken a couple of times on the phone for a man. I sing in the Praise Team at church. I can sing any part except Bass but most frequesntly sing HI Tenor!!!!!!!!!! Go figure that one out!!!!!!

i can soooo relate to your story. hardly anyone in kentucky knows what a daffadil is. It's always been, 'them little yaller Easter flyers". Have you ever asked someone where something is and they tell you, "it's a fur peace ober yander".

Too Funny!!! My students tell me all the time that I sound like Oprah Winfrey (I have heard it so many times, I just smile now). Kinda low for a woman but not gravelly. Although I don't have much of a New England accent, when I lived in Washington state, my friends told me that they could here "East coast something" in my words...who knows? I grew up in CT, moved to WA then MA, then NH. So I come by the East Coast naturally. Judi C

Several times per week I am told that I am just like "Elaine" from Seinfeld! ...to which I loudly reply "GET OUT!" Not sure if the Elaine in me is altogether comfortable with this association. I am just not sure I am sponge worthy. The Dingo ate your baby. Karen (perhaps Elaine in the post op Bizzaro world episode)

hmmmmm - think Jane Pauley. I've got Jim's middlde of the road, Indiana/Michigan nothing. Very articulate; love words; HATE public speaking. Kind of low, nice on the phone, sing alto. Always wanted to be Karen Carpenter and I'm pretty close. I think I sound older than I am.
