I'm Home
First, I want to thank everyone for all the good wishes before and after my knee surgery. As Connie reported, all went well and I am now on my way to having a pain-free knee (it's a long journey but will be well worth it).
I got home last night about 8:00 PM. I was actually released from the hospital at 5 but my neice picked me up and we wnet and dropped off my prescriptions, then went to Starbucks for their free Holiday Lattes. It was so nice to get out and about - even though I wqas supposed to go straight home and stay there execpt for doctor's appointments for the next 4 weeks. I was feeling pretty good and it was great to be out in the fresh air. After Starbucks, we went over to the store to pick up my meds and I did some much needed grocery shopping while I was there. I was pretty sure that my son had left a lot of nothing in the food department in the house.
So, by the time we did Starbuck's, the pharmacy and the groceries it was close to 8 when I got home. I looked a a couple of emails and headed to bed - suddenly I was pretty tired for some reason. Today has been a quiet day - I slept til 9:00 AM and got up and did a little cleaning in the kitchen, went back to bed for a while, then the home health therapist came for my PT. After she left, I took a two hour nap. I've been up puttering around a bit this afternoon but mostly have stayed close to the bed. I have been able to cut back on the pain meds which is a good thing.
For my last therapy sessions at the hospital yesterday, they gave me a coctail of an 800 mg muscle relaxant, 20 mg of hydrocodone and 15 mg of morphine. Can I say that I was somewhat mellow - but even with all that, when the therapist finally got my knee to bend to 90 degrees, the pain was unbelievable. Luckily, with the pain meds, it went away pretty quickly once he let my leg relax.
My task now, is to keep trying to bend the knee. I only got to 70 degrees today but the therapist wasn't alarmed about that.
Well, I'm getting tired and will go lie down for a while.
I do want to thank Connie for being such a terrific angel. I couldn't have asked for more.
Patty
Glad to hear that you are Home!
Keep up that Physical Therapy like Clockwork
And push on through the pain.
My Dad took his Post-Op responsibilities lightly
And he never got to a fully functioning, -
"Normal" range of motion.
The Pain was gone but now he wishes he had
Been more diligent to stay on top of his Exercises.
Hang in there and know that it gets a little easier each week!
Best Wishes-
Dx
Hey Patty, I'm so glad you made it home. Wow, sounds like you ran errands for nearly 3 hours---no wonder you were tired!! But I know it was good to get out after all that time cooped up in a hospital room.
Take good care of yourself, let me know if I can bring you anything or take you for appointments, etc.
Hugs,
Connie
