Another demon to fight..MY LIVER
Well Damn !
Went to my PCP today....we talked about my labs. Everything is great...except my liver function. It is now in the danger range. My liver enzyme count has been climbing steadily since my 3rd lab report. So whats a girl to do?
I don't drink.....
I rarely take a Tylonol.....
Dr. Springer thinks its the vitamins (?) I really hope she's right.
She said we are all different...we all absorb differently. She thinks my prenatal every day for almost 4 years is whats doing it. I have to go off all multi-vitamins for 2 weeks, then go to a kids chewable then have another lab test in 6 weeks. If the numbers don't move down a notch...then I have to see an Endo and possibly a liver biopsy. Holy Crap.
I also have to cut my protein shakes and supplements back to no more than one a day.....too many vitamins.
So....keep your fingers crossed for me....and if you know of anything else I can do, let me know. She said I was not to take any herbal 'remedies' for my liver and she also said more water won't do anything.
So.....just another pothole.....
Hugs from the beach....

Charlie-sorry to read about your liver problems. I hope the switching vitamins will work. To be honest--i have wondered about the long term use of pre-natal vitamins as my nutritionist had said she didn't think it was a good idea. But-it seems like so many do take them I was beginning to think she was mistaken. I will definitely be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Hey...the prenatals probably work well for most....I guess it just depends on the individual....how much we absorb...and maybe its ok in the beginning...but after a while it gets to be too much...who knows. I won't dwell on it and we'll see what happens in 6 weeks. It will feel odd though...not taking my multi vitamin before bed.....
Talk to ya soon
Hugs
Charlie
ps...are we going to Virginia in January?
Charlie,
Dr. Warnock said last week that too m uch protein can cause liver problems in some people. That is why it is so important that we have regular labs and continue with good folloe up care for life. He said he thinks that we can get too much of a good thing.
Hope everything works out well for you. I will be away from the computer for a couple of weeks starting Monday, so I won't be around for a while. But, do keep us posted.

Charlie, Hi there! coming to this late, but had to reply. When I first started reading the board, about 3 years ago or so, I remember a post by a gal who told us about the dangers of taking pre-natal vitamins for an extended length of time. I can't remember the details, but something in them was toxic, at least to her body, after taking it for a great length of time. I think it was for the vits that are prescription only, not the OTC pre-natals. I remembered this post, because my surgeon prescribes pre-natals for 3 months, and I thought about taking them longer, but after reading about this, I kept to the 3 month only time limit. I sure hope your counts turn around.
