Hi everyone, I got a call from my doctors office today, just last week the information for my TT plus a hernia surgery were faxed to my insurance. I am approved!!! I was really worried about the timeing of this surgery, My son is at Marine boot camp and I want to be there for his scheduled graduation on Jan 20th. I might have to drive by myself, its about 750 miles. and he then gets to come home for 10 days of leave before he goes to his school. My surgeon said I can't drive for 6 weeks after this surgery, its going to be pretty extensive. I was really hoping I would get lucky and get approved fast... well I did get lucky. The surgery is scheduled for Dec 13th, so it does give me those 6 weeks for recovery plus my surgeon STOPS doing surgeries on the 16th because of Christmas, I just made the cut off. I would have waited until after he graduated if I could not drive, I think after 13 weeks of boot camp. I should be there for my son! NOW for a personal question... should I tell my son I am having surgery! He has so much to worry about right now. I thought maybe I would just tell him I am having the hernia fixed, whice he already knows I was waiting to have done. Thanks Donna

Congratulations on getting your approval. You will be so happy you did this after you finish healing. I understand your concerns about worrying your son, but personally I think honesty is the best policy. Make light of it and say something like I decided to have my tummy tightened up a bit while they are doing my hernia surgery. He deserves to know his mom is having surgery. If you don't tell him he will always remember the time he wasn't told and wonder what you aren't telling him when he's away from home. I'm one of those people who need to know and be informed. I can deal with anything if I'm informed so my opinion may be biased in that direction.

you are so right about being honest. about 4 years ago I almost died from complications from spine surgery. my kids were just 12 and 14, no body would tell my kids what was going on with me, they just knew I had to go back to the hospital. To this day they still both say how mad it made them to not be told and ait was wrong of eveyone to keep it a secret because they did not think they could handle it. Thank you Donna

WTG on your approval you lucky stiff!! I hope everything is uneventful and you get the results you want. As far as telling your son, I say DEFINITELY. My mother is keeping all her medical issues from me and it's driving me nuts. Mind you, I see my mother about 4 times a week and talk at least once a day on the phone, then she tells me yesterday that she went into the hospital last Friday because she was having some pain! It makes me feel better when I know what's going on with her, and I'm sure your son would feel the same way. Good luck, Michelle
