Italian Cooks?

I found a great recipe for a Pizzelle Napoleon and assumed I would just go to the grocery store and pick up some "pizzelles." I was very wrong! Apparently these are something you actually make. Has anyone ever made them? Are they hard to do? If I get an electric pizzelle machine is it pretty fail proof? And does anyone have a good recipe for them? Yeah, I know it's not a great WLS dish but it sure looks pretty to take to a dinner party (which I'm going to tonight). I did find something to take the place of a pizzelle and it turned out great. But in the future I'd like to make it right! Thanks folks. DeeDee

Hi Dee--Not italian here and I am sure there will be someone wlse who can answer this question--but they are really easy to make. I have a vague recollection of seeing them pre-made somewhere. Of course--it could be that the wls has affected my mind-

Hi Dee Dee I am VERY Italian and pizzelli's are a staple in most Italian homes. The pizeeli makers are very EASY to use and there are many recipes that come with the maker. You will love them. We sometimes roll them while they are hot and fill with cannoli filling (pre-op days). But they are great plain with powdered sugar on top. Enjoy Terese -130 8-19-03

Hi Terese, How are you? Haven't seen you in ages and lost your email? Hope all is well with you. Everything is good here. I had my tt and am thrilled with the result. What a difference. Did you decide if you were going to the OH event in CA? I can't go as it is really bad timing with the holidays and then we have a cruise planned. I am going to VA though in January for a get together with a bunch of different people from here, but not OH related. Is that something you might be interested in? Anyway-got to run as it is getting late-but I wanted to say hi. Please email me so I have your email address. Hopefully--I will be up in your area and we can get together sometime.

Hi Lynda, I am good and I bet you are even better after your tt. I bet you look fab. I am not going to the OH event either. Diane decided not to go and we were going to be roommates and then it is also hard because of the holidays. I am going to your hometown for Thanksgiving to see my sister in law...any suggestions on what I should do or see? I might be interested in going to VA....I have a few friends there as well that I could see as well. Let me know the details. My email is [email protected]. If you ever come up this way, I will call Diane and the 3 of us can get together, or maybe we could meet half way one day! So close, but yet so far! Take care

Forgive me for posting on the grad board as I am pre op but enjoy lurking here at times! I love to make pizzelle however, I had much more success when I did not live in the humid South! You can't go wrong with an electric cookie iron but do watch the humidity and store them in an airtight container.

DeeDee, You can buy sugar-free ones on bariatriceating.com. I make cannoli mix with Splenda and layer it on for my own fake cannoli...it ain't Mike's in Boston but it isn't bad. Judi (Married to a gorgeous Italian but incapable of cooking Italian food...mostly because his grandmothers were awesome and I never learned!!!!)
