Has anyone here had a problem sleeping? I have not had a good night's sleep without Ambien or Xanax since I was operated on. What is happening. I wondered if it was just my age (65) or surgery related. I have a friends who are the same with or without surgery. Thanks. Marilyn

I slept a lot early on then for a brief period had problems... then it was ok and now I am sleeping fitfully but for me it usually has to do with anxiety like my upcoming surgery. Anything troubling you that would affect your sleep? Otherwise WLS related sleep problems I think can be because we don't need as much as we used too. I have more energy and can get by on much less sleep than when MO. Also I think you are right about the age thing. I have always heard people sleep less and require less as they age. Unless there are other factors like depression etc. Hope you find some answers. Lucy

Marilyn, I have been sleeping so well since surgery that I considered iit a two-miracle surgery. I suspect I may have had a bit of undiagnosed sleep apnea but whatever it was, I sleep so well now it's ridiculous. I fall asleep at 9:30 and wake up feeling great at 5:30! What a blessing. I'm sorry to hear about your sleep though and can tell you that I have friends who are having the same kind of issues (no surgery) and are thinking it's an age thing, too. This getting older is not for sissies. Hope your sleep improves. Judi

I take Tylenol PM or something similar every night. It may just be your age however--it seems pretty common.

Thanks for your replies. I took a sleeping pill last Wednesday as usual and waited for it to take effect. Went to the kitchen for a health snack and when I walked back up the stairs, I fainted on the landing. I was very lucky I didn't fall backwards as I would have probably broken my neck. The doctors put a 24 hr. monitor on me in the hospital and everything came out ok, thank God. They don't know what caused my fainting spell, but suspect that it was the Ambien that countered something in my body. Haven't taken it since and when I do, I will cut it in half. It's hard to sleep, but I do get some. Mar.
