B 12 QUESTION
Hi Nat. Have you seen or are you seeing an endocrinologist for your diabetes (or lack thereof)? I'm not an expert, but just thinking that maybe they could answer some of your questions regarding your diabetes history, symptoms that could arise in the future, and maybe damage that was done preoperatively. At least it might put your mind to ease about what's going on. BTW, neuropathy can be caused by diabetes also. My husband is a diabetic and he is a Diabetes Research Nurse.
A week or so ago, someone posted that since they've had GBS they're always told that whatever ails them is due to surgery. Everyone *****sponded agreed that not everything is going to be attributed to our surgery. I think you have to think the same way too. I mean, keep it in the back of your mind that it may be due to surgery, but it may not be either. Someone replied that they knew someone who had low b-12 levels and now walks with a cane. Although possible, we don't know that person's whole medical history to say there weren't other contributing factors which led to her medical condition.
Do what you're doing, ask the doctors to check what you think it might be, and maybe see a endocrinologist. Hopefully you'll know soon what's going on so that you can begin treatment for it.
Please let me know how you do.

Nat....I am the malabsorbed B12 queen.....I have been taking injections since surgery. Mine's usually a little low......but ok. I'm now taking the shots about every 2 weeks. Just this past weekend, I was so busy I ignored the symptoms....by Monday evening and Tuesday....it hit. I get so bone weary and sick feeling.....so Doug gave me a shot on Tuesday morning.....and I'm just now starting to come out of it. I have not experienced any numbness anywhere with it. Its just a weary sickness thats hard to describe.
Sounds like it might have to do with diabetes...so make sure you get it all checked out. I might start on the B12 sublinguals too just to keep ahead of it.....
CARNIE IS UP NEXT ON MARTHA.............

I am also on B12 shots monthly. I don't know what my levels are but I just had blood work done. I will have to call and check. Also I was a type II insulin resistant diabetic on 300+ units of insulin a day. I am now considered in remission and recently, about 3 months ago, stopped taking my last pill!! YEAH!!! Good luck and diabetes does go into remission but if there is damage done I'm assuming it is permament as long as you take care of your self now. Brigitte
Darlene, would you kindly email me the B12 and other labs you are emailing to a few on this thread. My WLS doc is excellent, but his follow-up stinks (in my eyes). He has never drawn blood but requests that my primary or internist do so. I get testing by a list I begged his office secretary for. He says he requests all his patients to have the blood work done with their primary physicians. I see him once a year now, so unless I am having major problems, I really don't talk with him much. I would love to have a concrete paper to show my interist to make sure he is drawing everything that needs to be done. Thanks a bunch. Missy at [email protected]
