Hi gang, Was just thinking about the swelling after my hernia/tt surgery. If I have baggy clothes now that are really comfortable over my stomach will those be tighter because of swelling or will they be ok cuz of the amount of tissue removed. Maybe I should have saved some of my bigger clothes?? I do have sweats that I think will be comfy but am curious if we swell up to the size of our removed gut or only partway there? Does this question make any sense to anyone?!?!? Your pre-op tt jittery pal Lucy

I didn't have hernia surgery but I did have the TT and you will have swellling for quite some time after. You will not see the FULL effect for as long as six months. Walking & drinking extra water will help. Wear the surgical garment you will have on when you wake up. It really helps the swelling stay down. Good luck Your present clothes that are baggy should be fine. I think I wore sweats to & from the hospital & for some time after over the surgical garment.

Lucy, I had the anchor style TT a few months ago--no lip or muscle repair needed however. I didn't own a pair of stretch pants or sweats and had to go out a buy some--I bought one pair of sweats and one cotton knit pants/jacket so I had something appropriate to wear outside the house. Remarkably, I had absolutely no swelling or bruising at any time, but I did have a couple of drains and those little bulbs need to be tucked somewhere--so sweats were the ticket. You'll also probably be wearing a binder for a couple of weeks and that takes up some space. You'll also have some physical discomfort from anything that puts pressure on the surgery area, so again, sweats are great. I was lucky to have a really good experience with PS--no pain pills needed at all, surgery in the AM, home just after lunch, no swelling/bruising, walking upright by day 3, and I hope at least as much for you!
