Fri.Food For Thought
It's Fri. and the end of another week and the start of a new weekend.
On the weekends people tend to let their hair down so to speak. And their programs (food plan included). This can be dangerous ground. Done once in a while is okay, but not on a reg.basis. It's too easy to get caught up in wrong eating which leads to poor eating habits again. We have come a long way my dear WLS family. This is for a lifetime that we made this committment, remember? Yes, one day at a time, but for the rest of our lives. It's not a diet program like Weigh****chers that we one day say we don't want to do this anymore. We had surgery and have to eat and do certain things as a life style change to LIVE. This wasn't just to look good, it was to SAVE our lives! Let's not throw this gift away by returning back to old habits.
This is not meant to brow beat anyone or to point fingers at one certain person, cause Lord knows I have three pointing back at me! It is a reminder and hopefuly a wake up call to many of us. Don't let the days of fighting w/your insurance co. to have this surgery be forgotten. Don't let the hard earned money that you had to put out of pocket to have this surgery be wasted. You didn't give up on having the chance to have this surgery, so don't give up on keeping what the surgey was meant to give us. A second chance. There are NO more chances after this. Treasure this last hope. Oh if we could just go back to how much we wanted to follow every rule our surgeons gave us. How in the beginning many of us was so fearful of venturing off our plan just a tiny bit. Having that healthy fear got most of us to goal. Why did we become so lax with our food plan? What made us think we could go back to some of the "Forbiden Fruit"! Our surgeons protocol for us didn't include the foods we now dabble in because they knew what was best for us. That didn't change! We did! We need to go back and re-commit to eating the way we were advised to for our well being. I know I do!

New Memories
If certain times of the year and certain activities associated in our minds with overeating, we need to create new memories to blot out the old ones. If we are hung up on past loves, hates, and hurts, we need to let go of them so that we can live in the present.
Old eating habits keep alive old wounds and frustrations. Even after we have maintained abstinence for a significant length of time, we may be troubled by unresolved conflicts from the past. The fact that we are abstaining from compulsive overeating gives us a chance to see the problems more clearly and to then walk away from them when we have done all that we can do to resolve them.
The past and the future are in the hands of our Higher Power. If we worke our program now and live the best we can today, we are creating good memories which will sustain us in the days to come.
Take charge of my memories, Lord.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Your Gastric Buddy,
Jeannie
Wow, your words are very motivating and are a helpful reminder as we head to the weekend.
I'm going to be visiting out-of-town family this weekend, including a birthday party, so I really need this reminder about why we did this in the first place!
I AM READY to "re-commit to eating the way we were advised to for our well being."
Thanks again and have a great weekend!
