happy columbus day !

well its that time of the year again ..its columbus day weekend and i think that this is my favorite weekend of all times..
for some reason i love columbus day weekend and the saddest part is its all associated with food..
as a kid we (my family ) used to go to my aunts house in the SUBURBS..we lived in the city and my fathers sisters all moved to the SUBURBS which have know turned URBAN..
omg ..wedd pack about 10 pounds of cold cuts and chhees..pack a case of st nicholas peppers and a gallon of white cider vinegar..
wedd go to my aunts houser and make vinegar papers enough for everyone everyone would come out with about 5 jars of vinegar pepperrs and they wouldnt be ready to eat until the end of november..my uncles andf dad would go down the cellAR AND BEGIN THE PROCESS OF MAKING HOME MADE WINE..ME AND MY COUSINS WOULD SNEAK DOWN AND INHALE THE WOODED BARRELL..
OPPPsss sorry bout those caps..then wedd feast on fre****alian cold cuts and after coffee and cannolis and assorted italian pastrys..go home with our vinegar peppers and my father and uncles would have visions of home made wine nd all.
on the monday that it was columbus day every other year wedd have a parade in my neighborhood ..it went in between the 2 italian neighborhoods every other year and on the morning of columbus day regardless of weather or if there was a parade my mother used to make Manasta
a italian boiled dinner ..every year ..my 2 grandmothers would eat with us..
it consisted of pepperoni cut up escarole..savoy cabbage ..white cannoli beans garlic red perr flakes omg to die for with fresh crispy italian bread..then the big treat to end the day was coffee and peperidge farm apple turnovers..my grand mothers were funny even though apples were in abundance they loved those tuerrnovers..
it get dark early and i knew that to me fall was officially arrived..
wonder why i had wls food has surrounded my life..
so to everybody happy columbus day weekend ..thanks for letting me share those memories..
