Anyone out there giving themselves B12 injections at home? I'm following Dr's instructions but something happens each time I do them. Today as soon as I pulled the needle out blood pooled on my thigh. It was dark and solid not as though the medicine came back out but I don't know for sure. Now my thigh hurts... Terri 303/130

Thanks Lynda... I'm considering that now the only problem is they are made with Sorbitol and I dont get along with anything tol... I wondering if it was a small enough amount that it would not bother me... I cant keep doing these shots unless I figure out how to do em right..

You should have someone at your doc's office show you how. When I ws at the OH conference in Orlando a doc spoke and made quite a big deal about how it HAD to be intra muscular. They said fat didn't work I believe.

I did have a lesson with the nurse before he would prescribe it. But he did it in my arm and I'm not that talented. I'm gonna have to go back and ask the Dr vs the nurse. He gives good injections. Terri

Maybe your just super unlucky each time and hitting a vein??? Try to plump up your skin, as in grabbing a roll of fat and inject into that maybe....you less likely to hit a vein that way......and if you do have to go into a muscle like thigh or something.....then maybe once you penetrate right before you pu**** in.....withdrawal a litlle and make sure your not pulling up blood......if nothing comes up, well then you should be good to shot it in. I don't do B12 shots, would love too.....but my doc won't prescribe them I just know these few tricks from shot giving days of ole' diabetes.....Take Care and good luck jesi

Jesi, Thanks it's hard doing it yourself to grab the skin and inject but I have not been pulling up on the needle. I'll try that next month.. LOL I hate doing it once but if it will stop the blood and pain after I'll try it... Terri

Terri, I've done the B-12 shots (once a month) From the beginning And haven't had one problem. Sorry about your string of bad luck. Maybe you have bad "Shot Karma?" I always grab a handful of thigh muscle Out on the side, and stick it in there. Push the injection in slow and it causes no After soreness. Or- This is what has worked for me. Hope this work out for you better next time. Best Wishes- Dx

Hey Terri, Not much help here, as I've always done mine in the upper arm. Its awkward to do, but honestly, I never even considered the thigh LOL.. I'll try that next month. Are you sure you're getting into the muscle area? I'd give a call to the doc and explain whats happening, and make sure you're getting the benefit from the shots.. If its just pooling, you may not be. Wendy
