Thank you, Pam. I found what you just told me about. I had open RNY on 20 November 2001, just 10 days before my 60th birthday. I am a widow and I did not have the money to seek professional help with my diet, and did not have much support. I lost 140# at 7 months out and nothing since. I have put on 35# and since the beginning of August have lost 20#. However, to do this I have been practically starving myself. I moved a distance from my surgeon or to even attend the support meetings at the hospital. I am confused about all these words I see. Calories vs. protein, etc. What is the right way and what should I be eating. I am anemic and my I get B12 shots every other month. My Bariatric surgeon has me taking 65mg of Iron, one multivitamin daily. I hope I am explaining myself clearly. Thank you. Georgine

I asked this question 9/2/05 at 10:41am. The subject is 'Just what SHOULD I eat'. If you view old posts, you'll be able to see all the responses. They were VERY helpful. .... the most important thing I've found is that you MUST eat to lose the weight .... if you don't eat enough, you will not lose. Julie

My surgeon says eat all your protein (4 oz), followed by veggies, followed by fruit. If you get full on protein only, quit eating. 3 meals & 1 snack a day. Calories are hard to name an exact figure because people metabolise food differently. Each person has to play around with the calories to figure out what their magic # happens to be. Mine seems to be (800-1200) to maintain, but most people can eat more. The secret to maintaining for me is to keep the carbs low, but other people can eat a lot of carbs and still lose or maintain. We each have our own unique journey and have to figure some of this out for ourselves. If you don't log your food try the web site for FitDay. It's cumbersome until you get use to it but once you've set up some of the foods you eat on a regular basis you should be able to log a days food in 2-3 minutes. I am still shocked at times when I see how many carbs/calories are in some foods. Besides knowing I'm going to have to log my food intake sometimes keeps me from eating something I shouldn't eat anyway. It keeps me honest with myself. Best of luck to you.
