I just wanted to let you know that it's official. I had the GTT this morning. It is official. I DO have Reactive Hypoglycemia. The second blood draw after drinking the nasty stuff showed me to be 36. I was supposed to have the last draw in one hour but they called me back and drew it in about fifty minutes and gave me something to eat right on the spot. Course I didn't stay around to see how low the last draw was but I can guess it was probably down in the twenties. They were surprised I was in as good shape as I was with the 36. She said we see people in ER in comas every day almost with glucose in the thirties. So next step for me is the follow up visit with my PCP to see where we go from here. I know I will be eating six times a day and checking my glucose four times a day. I hate that. Well, just wanted to let you know about my latest "bump" in the road. I have had one bump after another and it is getting very old.

Delores, Thanks for keeping us updated. It's nice to be able to put a name on a condition when we get something. Now you will be able to get and do treatment to counteract this. Hope you feel better. Darlene

Now that you've figured out what the problem is you will learn to live with it. I'm betting it won't take that long to get this figured out. It will be a pain having to stick yourself often until you get the plan worked out though. Hope you are soon back on track and feeling good again. Now go eat half an apple......grin.

Hi Delores. Sorry to hear about your latest "bump" in the road. I'll pray that your doctor comes up with an easy and convenient way to keep your blood sugars in control. Take care of yourself and let us know how you're doing. Cathy

Hi Delores, I am very glad you found out what is wrong with you and I do think you will get a handle on it quickly. Thank you for sharing it with us, I have a feeling I might have this happening to me, but it is rare, maybe 1 to 2 times a week and only in the last month. Hugsss Theresa

They say it is common after WLS but in looking back, I can remember getting the "shakes" and eating a bite of candy many years before WLS. But, I hadn't been doing it since surgery except lately. I have two or three episodes a day.

I just get really shaky inside. Not even visible on the outside. It makes me feel kind of panicky. Sometimes, I get clammy and weak. I also have a headache right in my temples. It is similiar to dumping . I am doing it several times a day. Not associated with eating anything. Plus, I am not a dumper. The most noticeable thing is the shakes. Usually, when I eat something, it is alright for awhile. Sometimes not. I had a full panel of labs last week and they were all normal. I was not fasting tho. I mentioned it to my surgeon and he said He thought I was having low glucose and wanted my PCP to follow up. I went to him and told him what my surgeon had said. My PCP is an interist that specializes in Diabetes. He immediately, even without testing told me what was wrong. He set me up to have a three hour glucose tolerance test today. I will be hearing from him tomorrow to set up what to do and a dietician visit. The dietician in my surgeons office is actually on maternity leave right now but she told me to go to the one my doc sends me to. The treatment is the same for WLS patients as it is for regular people only smaller amounts. I didn't even dump from the stuff (75 percent glucose) they had me drink today. People will try to explain it away and tell you that you are dumping. You really need to contact your pcp and have a glucose tolerance test done. It is very simple. They stick you for blood then have you drink the stuff as fast as you can, then draw blood every hour for total of four sticks. It will tell them immdediately if your sugar is dropping. here is a great place to read about it. www.diagnoseme.com then click on hypoglycemia
