How our tastes change
I had to drive 4 hours to attend a funeral on Wednesday. I left early and had a protein bar. Decided I really needed something else later in the drive since lunch wasn't going to be until after the funeral. Got an Egg McMuffin with Sausage. Two bites. UGH. I used to love those things. Now it's nasty! On the return trip home stopped at Arbys and got a Hot Ham and Cheese. About 3 bites and I was done. Fast food is pretty nasty now. I guess that's a good thing. I'd rather eat cottage cheese! And I hated that before surgery.

Hi Lyn!
Your right, our tastes do change. I really wasn't much of a seafood eater before wls (except for founder) and now I love a lot of it. Great source of protein too. Fast food doesn't agree w/me much either. It really is a good thing. It really is full of stuff that isn't the best for us anyway. Actually, it isn't good for anyone. LOL....
I too hated cottage cheese and just recently I'm able to eat it. Also high in protein. Now if my taste for carbs would just change. Ugh!!! But I'm detoxing from them right now and I'm taking it a day at a time and doing quite well.
Nice to meet you by the way.
Your Gastric Buddy,
Jeannie
I don't get anything from the fast food places now except side salads and some chili from wendy's.
I've learned to drink V-8 juice to help with my veggie counts each day. My nut recommended that i do it. I have decided i can gag it down as long as it's room temp! I've tried it freezing cold and even heated up!
What is the real definition of intolerance to milk products? I've been ok with mil****il recently. Lately it gives me horrible gas pains. Not so much passing gas, just really bad cramps. I'm about to the point to mark it off my "approved list".
Isn't it grand? I loved (lived for , ) Cheetos, chocolate anything and ice cream before WLS. Now, just looking at Cheetos makes me ill, more than 2 tablespoons of ice cream makes me dump, and well, I choose really excellent chocolate and limit myself to 3 SMALL bites and do it only occasionally now.
Yesterday, with my crop of tomatoes overflowing, I thought a BLT sounded sooo good. While I was dreaming of it I didn't think about the fact of how I'd eat it without bread, which just doesn't sit well in my pouch. I served up everyone, packed my tomato, a bit of sour cream (I hate mayo), and a slice of bacon and a few rings of sweet onion in a nice big romaine lettuce leaf--and, well, it just didn't make the grade. I needed the bread to make it memorable. I ate it but I don't think I'll ever long for one again. Goodbye to another old friend.

I used to LOVE porterhouse/T-bone steak before surgery. Since then, can't stand it! Every time my hubby has one, and it smells so good - I take a bite and chew, chew, chew and then ptooey! I hafta spit it out! Just can't make myself swallow the yucky stuff. But give me a 2 oz. ground beef patty and I'm in hog heaven! Go figure!
I used to live on pasta, bagels, etc. before surgery too and don't even care about them now. But that's a good thing too. When DH cooks and uses garlic, YUCK, I hafta leave the room. Can't stand the smell and it never bothered me before either.
I'm okay with all the changes though. It's definitely been to my advantage.
