***Two-year anniversary of my rebirth!
Two years ago today I took a step that changed my life forever. I went to the hospital weighing close to 300#, with type II diabetes, high blood pressure, bad knees, and many other ailments related to my obesity. Within a year, I was close to goal and underwent several rounds of plastic surgery. Today at age 52, my co-morbidities are gone and I am in better shape than I've ever been before.
I underwent open roux-en-Y with the hope for a better life and I now have that a hundredfold. Would I do it again? Absolutely. I can only speak for my own experience, and it was wonderful. Was it always easy? Absolutely not. The farther out I got, the harder it was to lose weight. I struggle now at times to maintain my loss. But the pouch gave me the opportunity to relearn how to eat all over again, this time putting quality food (not quantity) into my pouch. I now am addicted to exercise the way I once was obsessed with food. And I'm doing great.
I stay active in support groups; I never want to forget where I came from. And I want to help others the same way many, many have helped me. This website has provided so much unbelievable support and treasured friendships. We're all in this together, thanks so much to my family here.
Blessings to all, wherever you are in your journey.
Hugs,
Connie
