Embarrassing but need to know ....:)
Hi guys !
This is the first time I have posted on this board ! I am a member of the MAY 2004 board and decided to make my way over here today to see what was happening ! You guys bring up some really good points and I have enjoyed reading the questions and responses today. I had RNY 5/4/2005 and have lost over 140 pounds.
Anyway, it has been 16 months since my surgery and only in the past 2 months have I been having really bad *gas* problems ... I mean it STINKS and now my new nickname around the house is STINKY- given lovingly? to me by my kids and hubby ! My eating habits have not really changed . I haven't been adding any *new* things to my diet so I am flummoxed as to what is causing this ? I don't eat sugar and very limited bad carbs ( a roll or cereal now and then) Have any of you gone through anything similar , and if so, what did you do to help? Should I contact a nutritionist to see what she says ? I need to do something cause I don't want to leave a stink trail for the rest of my life !

I do not have any advice for you but thought I would tell you that I stink soooooooooo bad at times too. There is no reason or rhyme to when I will (unless I eat chili). My family and I have just learned that we have to live with it. It really only bothers me when I am out and I fluff, then I try to get out of the spot I am in FAST.
Good luck!
Theresa
Hi Stinky Kathy,
I hate to be the one to tell you but from what I have been reading on the board the past couple of years it looks like this is the one side effect that we aren't aware of before surgery. I think it will be a lifelong issue for us. There was an article recently in the news section about this issue that you might be interested in reading.

All the post ops I know who have terrible gas take Devrom - you can buy it at the Obesity Help store and other places on line. Many swear by it and wouldn't use anything else - it's an internal deodorizer and helps a lot!
