Weight Gain?
OK Grads,
I've got a question about weight gain.
I was a "Scale-Addict" for nearly the first 2 years Post-Op.
Every Morning started with a trip to the Scales as
Part of my Morning Routine.
I monitored my progress in .5 lb increments.
I'm 6'1" tall and I went from 385 to 179 in about 20 months.
I'd bounce up and down by about 1.5 lbs over a 3 to 4 day period
Sometimes 178, other days 180.5, but the typical median was 179.
For the last 3 months or so I've lost my "Scale-Fever"
And so many people out here say-
"Stay off the scales, it'll just make you crazy!"
I went about 3 ½ weeks without "checking in."
Now- I'm up to 182 to 182.5
And this is checking for the last 4 days in a row.
I reviewed what I'd eaten those days and my calorie intake
Was approx. 1700 to 2000 over the last several days.
I'm doing what I've done all along.
It's not that "I've been Good,"
It's just that-"I've Been Consistent."
The only difference I can find is that I've moved from
Muscle Toning exercises (Exer-Bands)
To Muscle Building exercises. ( a lot of push-ups)
Still, I can't imagine that I've possibly added 2 lbs of muscle
In the last few months, let alone 3.
I don't see it in my arms, shoulders, chest, etc...
That's nearly a 2% of total body weight gained
In just under a month.
Any Workout folks out here have experience with such?
Or-
Anyone experience a natural "bounce" in weight after hitting goal?
If nothing else, I'm going to risk being driven crazy by my scales
For a while until I see that this is either stable or passing.
Your Thoughts?
Experiences?
Best Wishes-
Dx
All I can tell you is that I usually remain between 100 and 107 pounds. If I were to go any higher then 110, then I would be worried and I would start low carbing again, but since I work out on a regular basis, I am not too worried about gaining weight. Try to set a personal limit for yourself and stick to it. Your body will bounce between a 10 pound gap on any given day.
((((HUGS))))
Dawn
Thanks Dawn,
I was just such a Scale Fanatic
And never had more than a couple of lbs
Of "Variation."
I was a little alarmed at this.
10 pound gap?
I guess- "Thank Heavens I never had that in the past"
Or I would have hot-glued the scales to my feet!
Do you think the disparity in that fluctuation
Could be a Male/Female difference?
Hoping to get a broad range of thoughts on this......
Best Wishes-

DX--I think it is because you hit the magical 2 year mark. No, not really, but I can tell you I have read lots about people gaining some at two years out. It happened to me (12 lbs.) and now I am working to get it off.
I have never been a scale junkie because my weight varies incredibly from day to day. I usually would weigh weekly. I do know though that in the past when I started regaining I would avoid the scale because I was afraid of what I would see.
I am sorryyou've had a "little" bounce, but it sounds like you are doing things right and if I was a betting person I would bet that you'll get rid of it soon.
Take care and have a great day.
Thanks Lynda.
I've had so many "Oooops'es"
Happen in my first year (profile)
That I'm a little "gun shy"
About all of it.
One thought I've had is that
My intestines have grown
A little better at absorbing.
I've seen posts about this from the
DS'ers, but haven't looked into the
Generation of new micro-villi and epithelial cells.
Typical 2 year?
I'll keep my calories and drop my carbs back down
And live on the scales a bit.
Best Wishes-
Dx
Hey Dx
I believe I would keep the scales. I would want to keep monitoring my weight. I weigh once each week or once every two weeks. I don't obsess about it, but I do try to weigh-in. I don't think you obsess either, but I don't blame you for being concerned. If I go up a pound or 1/2 pound, I eliminate carbs for a few days. I wish you the BEST!
Hugs and happiness, Tammy
Hey Dx!
I've always been avid about my weight training and I found that my whole wl journey was slow...I tried EVERYTHING! But all in all....I was much slimmer the the weight on the scale.
So in my opinion...if you just started with weight training you very well could be gaining a little in muscle...it should flatten out though. The thing with arm, back, chest weight training too is you dont physically "SEE" the loss of inches but you WILL see more definition in the near future...
I will tell you this though...I had emergency back surgery 3 months ago and it seriously put a damper in my workout routine...lately I have noticed that I have LOST so much muscle and tone in my legs and stomach that it drives me crazy! So i'm still in Physical therapy and adding a little more at a time in the weight training department...I Hope to get back there soon although I cant run anymore which sucks...I have to find alternative things...but i'm happy to say I CAN WALK again and STAND UP straight! That is worth it.
I still weigh only once a week...I fluctuate too much daily also and that really messes with my mind.
So I say KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and you will REALLY FEEL THE DIFFERENCE in your body..so keep up the weight training! Your numbers are AWESOME!

I don't know, but I truly believe that the body begins to compensate over time. I used to get that yucky feeling after eating high carb or high fat foods. Not anymore.
For 9 months I ate & drank pretty much anything I wanted. I stopped weighing & thought I'd just enjoy the rest of that life I'd only dreamed about. One where those skinny people could eat anything & not gain an ounce.
Well, those days are gone. It seemed like almost over night, my clothes were all to tight. Started out in size 26, got down into some size 0's. Now wearing 4-6's. Still considered successful, but my body is now grasping all those carbs & calories & hanging on to them.
Keep up that exercise & weigh in to keep you in line. I should have. I don't care to lose any weight, but I really don't want to gain anymore either. I don't exercise but starting to seriously consider it. I can accept weight gain if I know I'm toning, but that's not the case.
You have done wonderful!!! & still are!
