Howdy all! I am traveling in wonderful Branson Missouri this week. Like Bart Simpson once said, it's like Las Vegas if Ned Flanders ran it. LOL. Anyways, I am taking a chewable iron since I can't stand the pills. It says that the iron is in the form of amino acid chelate. Does anyone have any knowledge of this type? I hope it's not all for nothing. Does anyone know of a good chewable iron? Thanks! Michelle

Michelle, I was recently told by my surgeon that I need extra iron. Thanks for asking this question. Why is it you can't take the pills? Personal preference or some other physical reason? I'm curious as the whole concept of "chewable iron" seems really tough on the teeth but a windfall for my dentist, not to mention just sounding like it would be really nasty tasting. WP

I can take pills but don't really like to take them. The chewable iron I'm taking tastes like a Tums, it's not too bad actuallly, and they are not tough on the teeth. Michelle

Amino Acid Chelates come in the forms of Maganese, calcium and iron. It appears that they are pretty low doses. I personally would be leary of them. You want to search out for ferrous fumerates for the best iron for us. There are a couple products that come to mine such as SloFe or Solgar has an iron product that has reported to have had good sucess. Make sure you take your iron a min of 2 hours from your calcium. You want to take a Vit C with it also. Vitron C is a good iron also with the Vit C built in. Good luck on your quest for iron. These are just my personal opinions, like calcium there will be a boat load of opinions from others. Darlene

My Quest for Iron.... sounds like a good movie title! The Iron I have been taking actually has C in it, the side says "highly absorbable" whatever that is supposed to mean! When you say "low dose", what does that mean? The bottle says that one tablet is 150% recommended daily value. Also, I keep forgetting about the Calcium 2 hours from Iron thing.... thanks for reminding me! Take care, Michelle

I Hi Michelle--I have been taking Solgar chelated iron capsules now for two years. I don't know if it coincidence or not, but my iron levels are really good. In fact, I am having plastic surgery next week and they have commented about how good my levels are. The iron I am taking is this http://65.200.170.239/cgi-bin/online_reference_new/online_ref.pl?function=Product&id=96756800613288 What Darlene says about them typically being low dosage is correct but it is my understanding that they can be low dose because we absorb a much higher percentage of them. I don't know this for fact, I just have read stuff and it is what my experience tells me. Have fun in Branson.
