I expect to be flamed for this..but here goes!!!
Actually, I was hoping that someone would change my opinion vs. starting something. Boy did it roll! I actually have some different insight. I too am black white with little gray and sometimes need others to show me the other shades in the world. That's what this post did.
I did a BAD job with my words. Cheese and Crow! I actually sent personal emails to a few that were clearly offended by my words and tried to make amends. If they don't respond, it's okay, I know I tried and I know I didn't mean to make things sound racial. Unfortunately I did....sigh...
AMEN SISTAH! It is COMPLETELY frustrating! And for me to hear about firefighters being shot at (along with police) just makes me cringe. We're here to protect and serve. But I guess you have to accept that we can't always to that if we don't have willing participants.
The whole thing just really hurts my heart to the core. I want to help but I cannot. I am in line to see if I can go when FEMA lets us. Our Chief will not allow us to go until we are called.
it is soooo frustrating. I, too, am on a list with 600 medical volunteers here in Kentucky. Doctors and nurses of all kinds and respiratory therapists. We have been on the list since last week and they are holding us back. We have sent tons of firefighters and law enforcement people down there but they are holding the medical people back. Yet, they are on TV every minute begging for medical help. They have a deal where no matter what state you are licsenced (sp) in, you can practice in La or Mississippi. They did the same thing to us after 9/11. Several independant groups went but those of us that were on official lists were put on hold, then finally told we would not be needed.
I am on a list of volenteers. We are getting 1000 to 1500 evacuees today in sc. I guess what makes me so mad is everyone blaming the goverment and trying to make this a racial issue. the mayor or new orleans was on the tv the other day and really downing the president and Katie Curic ask him you are the mayor wasn't it your responsibility and he said no. Yes the goverment is helping and you notice that when the president went down and seen what needed to be done things started happening. Shouldn't the mayor and govenor of new orleans take some responsibility and say if we would have been better organized maybe things would have been done sooner and better. And for this being a class or a racial issue I wish people would quit harping on this it is a human issue, an american issue. These people need our help it doesn't matter what color or class they are people and need help. I was in New Orleans this summer on a mission trip and was in alot of the projects or housing developments and these are people who are really great and kids who I fell in love with and cry now wondering where they are and if they are ok. yes they are below the poverty line and don't have much but they are great people with big hearts and great smiles who I just wanna hug. They have lost everything and some of them didn't have much to start with but it does not matter if they live in the development or in a big house they need our prayers and love.
