Army ???
Kim,
Call your local Army recruiting office. Explain you have had WLS and they should be able to tell you if they would automatically disqualify you. Years ago I worked for Air Force Recruiting and our recruiters had a list of automatic disqualifications for medical, also a list of medical things that would require a "waiver" to be allowed to join. The "waiver" often required special testing, medical histories from your doctors, and then a review by the Military Examination Station doctor.

I went to an Army recruiter and they told me it is not an automatic disqualification, but it was up to the doctor during your first physical. I do know that asthma is an automatic disqualification. I'm waiting to hear back from my state police. If I don't make it into their academy, I'm planning on trying the Army route. Keep me updated with your journey!

"Just to see if I could do it."
Worst reason ever to join any branch of the military, regardless of their policies on WLS. Join because its what you want to do, and talk to A LOT of current personnel. My husband spent 7 years in two different branches. He liked some parts and hated others. My sister signed up with the Navy several years ago and could not make it. She washed out of boot camp because she was not 100% committed and when she got hurt (shin splints) she took the option of quitting.
Sorry for going off on you about this, but it's too big a deal to treat this lightly.
Okay I really want to do this, I went to the recruting office last night, and they could not find anything on WLS but some other types of surgery's, say you need to be 5 years out , and they want you to be 40 or younger, Ill be 41 this month, I wanted to do nursing in their.
I always thought if I was smaller I would have joined out of high school.
