Ok I'm 19 months out, been on a plateau for over 6 months. Up and down 3 lbs or so the entire time. Today, out of the blue, I seem to have gained 10 lbs. I just weighed in on Sunday. It's only Wednesday It brought tears to my eyes, and fears to my head. I'm not dealing with it well, I'm not thinking clearly, and I need to hopefully sleep and ZAP these anxieties I'm feeling away and hopefully wake up with a different outlook. Thanks

{{{Hugs}}} You're not alone. It sounds very similar to what I experienced.

Could it be water retention? That time of the month? Too much salt?

I understand I have gone through the same thing. Don't let it get you down. Remeber your rules and keep on track. Drink your water and it will come back off. Keep an eye on how your clothes fit. You will do fine. conni

Sorry you are going through this. You can not gain 10 pounds fo fat that fast, you are retaining fluid. How much sodium is in what you are eating and drinking. No gaterade or propel !! You will notice a lot of weightgain drinking high sodium products. To break the plateau, you have to increase your protein and fluid intake and also change up your exercise. Cut out all refined carbs and concentrate on meat, fresh veggies and fresh fruit. You also must cut your calories down. If you cut 500 calories per week, you will lose 1 pound. Use fitday.com to track what you eat and measure your foods. You should only eat 1/4 cup of veggies, sides, and fruit, 1 cup raw veggies, and 2-4 oz of meat per serving. Be sure to get in 100-135 g of protein per day and 100oz of fluids. This is a sure way to put you back on the right path. It has worked for me when I got a little carried away with bread, crackers and pastas... Good Luck ~ VAL bariatric101.com

Val, You're just GREAT! I can't tell you how encouraged I've been by all of you on this site but I CAN tell you that your 'eating' guidelines are exactly what I need to get back on track. Thank you! Julie

most likely water weight to have gained 10 real pounds in 4 days you would of needed to eat 3,500 X 4=14,000 extra calories............................very very unlikely you could of done that on top of the regular amounts of calories you maintain on so get ready to analyse, yes you will have to think clearly is it near your time of month? did you eat more salty food, or just even food cooked by someone else (you do not know how much salt they added)? did you eat a higher balance of carbs than protein?????? did you not pee as much yesterday, is the color of your pee look like bright yellow or even a darker orange........all signs of water retention were you ankles swollen last night or this morning were your eyelids really puffy your rings tight (dependent edema goes to feet at the end of day and when you lay down to sleep it distributes all over your body) first off do not panic and try to starve yourself it will only make it worse,,, consider more fluids,,,,,consider caffeine- green tea makes a great natural diuretic (and no worry of oxalates from tea causing kidney stones Call your MD if forcing fluids, caffeintated products does not get you peeing alot, he or she may prescribe you a mild diuretic to help the edema. Since reaching goal I have been plagues with edema, my surgeons explanation makes a lot of sense ....our fats cells are depleted of fat but the cell itself remains like an empty water balloon just waiting for the water to come in-eat the wrong food, hormonal shifts with period, weather high humidity......they swell up and large amounts of water weight can result. gratitude is my attitude Amanda S VG-DS October 2001 highest >350/342 start of wls journey/154@goal and after ps

Kathy, I see others have already replied with what I'm about to say but more IS better in this case, I believe. I TOO have had that problem ... I was going along fine and then I gained 5lbs in 3 days! Not possible! It actually took me about 2 weeks to 'make it go away' but that was because I paniced and quit eating/drinking. I've learned my lesson AGAIN though ... as soon as I started eating and drinking like I'm was supposed to (see Val's reply) it disappeared! I know you're scared and worried but it is just NOT possible to gain 10lbs that quickly ... it's got to be water or other bodily 'fill-up'. Hang in there! Julie
