Eating question

I have been living on prepared protein shakes from a can, which are quite good. However, the brand and flavor that I like may be discontinued. I would like to make my own shakes with water or nonfat milk. However, my question is this. If I prepare a shake in a blender with protein powder, ice, fruit or whatever, that will cause a huge bubble build-up in the drink (which is what makes it frothy). Will that affect my pouch? Will it give me horrible painful gas? I have had some nasty pain attacks in the intestines when I have had something that caused gas to get trapped, never intentional, so I am very scared of turning a blender on anything I am about to eat or drink. Any thoughts on this? I will be undergoing surgery in a few days and can only have liquids for a while, so I wanted to try making my own shakes for variety's sake. Hopefully someone can help tonight, as I need to start drinking them really really soon. Thanks, Missy.

Hey Missy, My personal experience is this. I loved a particular brand of ready to drink protein shakes that I was getting at the Vitamin Shoppe, banana cream, RTD-Lite, and they discontinued them. I decided to bite the bullet and try powder. I'm lactose intolerant, and mixing them with water was just yuck to me.. gagged em down. Tried mixing with Ice, shaved ice, blending, etc. Blending made it too frothy and I experienced the gas build up, and found that I couldn't choke the entire drink down, cuz of the amount of air in the drink. I finally bought a ****tail shaker on a clearance aisle. Its a glass (has measurements on it for ounces, along with ****tail recipes lol) and the other part is a steel cup, you pour the stuff in, and fit the two together and hand shake. This works great to get the clumps out, and doesn't leave the drink too frothy. I can do the same thing with a large sports bottle. Play around with things, see how it works for you. Good luck with the liquids and your upcoming surgery. Wendy

The best tasting RTD protein shake I have had is Extreme Smoothies. You can find them on my website, bariatric101.com, GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. To make your own shake, purchase a stainless steel ****tail shaker, add two cubes of ice, protein powder and then liquid and shake vigorously until well blended. No froth, no clumps... Those are on my site too... bariatric101.com VAL

You'd get better response from the main message board. This board is for people who are more than a year out. Most of us aren't into the protein shakes at this point.

I disagree with you. I believe and I use protein shakes at least twice a day and I'm 2 1/2 years out. Beats eating between meals. Marilyn
