Vioxx had a much lower death rate than WLS, and look where it is. I would also go so far as to say that Vioxx had a higher success rate (ie, it relieved significant pain for a significant percentage of people that took it) than WLS.
How long before the completely unexpected WLS side-effect pops up, the one they didn't think to warn us about because it was so inconceivable, and the malpractice lawsuits start? In a society where one death is too many, are we ever going to be able to sell WLS?
Look what happened with Silicone Breast Implants.
Again, just food for thought. The fact that I had WLS should indicate where I stand

Well--Tek--I composed a long and thoughtful reply and then my computer crashed. All I feel like saying now is--impotence is not life threatening, although some may disagree."haha" The co-morbidities of morbid obesity are life threatening. So the risks involved with weigh loss surgery can be higher to allow for the risk/reward factor. I'm sure there are other analogies though. I, for one, am thrilled with my choice and have found the risks to be well worth it. I feel better than I have in 20 years.

I'm not sure if if your pulling an example out of thin air like I did, but to be clear Vioxx is/was a high-powered PAIN medication. Chronic Pain is not directly life threatening, but those suffering it experience depression, immobility, and a higher rate of other disorders, including suicide.
If you were confusing Vioxx with another medication, perhaps your computer did you a kindness
But again, I presented all that just as food for thought.
