Do you ever...??

Exactly. I have told post ops that with my experience eating what they think they can handle is not wise - I get nasty emails back and I've just given up. If you can't follow your surgeons recommendations or can't eat things you're not supposed to - I can't help - my words aren't going to mean anything -but they sure will be posting in a year or two wanting a revision because the surgery didn't work for them or complaining of regain. I hate that those newbies can't understand how important it is to follow the rules to be successful - but I guess everyone has to learn on their own.

Nice to know I'm not the only one . . . Sometimes I wonder if too many are having WLS without really really REALLY researching it . . . all because of the media hype and celebrities . . . It really isn't a quick easy fix as so many ads seem to offer. Ya know, I can remember being terrified of trying to eat, even when the doc said it was ok. Me and my baby spoon!

Not so much "too many" but "many people unsuited for" is more accurate. I often distinguish being a "candidate for WLS" vs a "candidate for successful WLS". If you're a grad, been a round a while, you know there is a difference. Sadly, sometimes you can see the difference while people are still pre-op. Nowhere Man/PH/Jay

Here, here! Great big ditto. Researching cannot be limited to being on a message board, yet I get the sense that and People magazine are the only sources of information some people rely on. Scary. I've said it before. If all of us who are fortunate enough to have insurance pay for WLS work hard to be successful, the insurance providers will look at this more positively. If we fail in droves, we'll reduce the opportunity for those in the future. Well, that's my optimistic belief anyway. Ann

I can't help but wonder... If we (WLS Post-Ops) "fail in droves", then perhaps WLS is not all its cracked up to be, and the insurance companies are right? Just a thought. Tek

Tek--I have been wondering the same thing. One thing I can think of is that our long term success rate is still much higher than conventional diets.
