Do you ever...??
Do you ever see a thread on a board that is sort of not smart? like the person is about 3 months post op, at a couple weeks out of was eating regular foods, like chicken, tuna, etc... then after a few weeks or a month, they can't hold the solid foods down........ you start posting a reply, it becomes very long and full of helpful hints and suggestions...then....you just delete it....
Do you ever feel like your just wasting your time answering that cause you know they just aren't serious by how they are posting???? or....should we go ahead and post and know that it won't be read cause it doesn't say what they WANT to hear???
Darlene (wearing my suit)
Darlene, I do this more than I would like to admit. I read these posts everyday and start to answer, then think, "who am I to tell them what to do..they should be discussing this with their doctor or their therapist.." and yes I sometimes think their hearts aren't in this so it isn't going to matter anyway.
Okay, hit submit, don't hit delete, hit submit, hit submit. Carla

Another one comes over to the Dark Side
I frequent MANY message boards, on MANY different topics.
The "They just don't get it" post appears on EVERY SINGLE one. The translation is "They disagree, therefore they are ignorant." Going on to post a response trying to move them in a different direction is most often and invitation to an arguement.
The fact that someone may be eating 'regular' foods at 2 weeks I don't think means much. That very well could have been her instructions. But the "they just don't get it" means that unless you agree with their conclusions, "YOU just don't get it," so anything other than sympathy or mirroring their view back to them is pretty much a waste of time.
Just for the record: This is a post mostly in agreement
Also for the record: I abandonned the thread after the initial post, so didn't see any responses.
Also for the record: In this case I could be completely off base.

Hey Darlene--Please don't take this the wrong way--I have thought about responding back to you for over an hour now--and my fingers are twitching, I just can't control myself. LOL. I enjoy much of the information you post on these boards and have for a long time. However...I just really think you should try and lighten up a bit. This is not a flame--but you frequently refer to flames in your posts and I have to say that this thread is one example where I just don't see any flames. I am not even sure I see much disagreement with what you are posting. Jay was making a joke--that's all.
We are not all gonna agree on everything and I have had my share of nasty responses to posts I have made--not on this board however. But, we just have to let stuff like that roll off of us and not be over sensative--this is coming from an overly sensative person myself. I really hope you take this the way I mean it and continue posting if you want. You've got lots of good info to share. Take care and have a really good day.
Darlene--Tek raises some good points--however--I often find myself starting to respond to threads and then stop. I remember learning so much from what I read while researching wls, so I do know that often others learn from posts, even if the original poster isn't interested. But, I do know sometimes it is frustrating sometimes--very frustrating.
