Thanks for the link. I took the assessment and it said I have some signs of depression. I also noticed that it said: "Depression generally doesn't go away on its own, so don't try to just tough it out." I first discussed depression with my surgeon (two years ago), and it was felt to be minor and would resolve on it's own.. By no means am I faulting my surgeon!! I know that many post ops go through a period of depression after surgery and many or most of them are probably temporary but now I'm wondering if *mine* was temporary or if I just got got use to feeling that way and accepted it as normal. Funny thing is, I use to give the depression assessment to clients, but NEVER did I think any of it applied to me.

surgeons are surgeons and thier knowledge of the mechanics of the human body is amazing. They are not the experts on mental health issues tho. they don't really do it as part of their job, specialty. Now if they could cure it with a scalpel......

True so true. I do not blame him at all. He told me if I continued to be bothered to see "so in so".. but I soon felt "normal". Depression never came up again at any of my follow up appointments. I'd never fault a surgeon for not treating depression, nor any other medical condition, just as I'd never fault a general practice MD for not performing surgery.. And by my own admission, I felt "normal" after that.
