Able to eat tooo much!?!?!?
I'm really starting to get concerned. I am able to eat waay more than I should be able to, although I know I should have the discipline to stop, I am concerned something is wrong. I have been able to eat a 12 inch sub, felt full, but nothing else, and I was not drinking with my meal at the time. Then last night, I was at dinner with friends and I had soup, salad, shared appetizer and my steak...yes, I was drinking, but I still ate more than my friend who hasn't had surgery. She left half her meal, because she was really full...and she didn't have salad??? I had an endoscopy in Dec., and they said everything was o.k. I was transcected. I see my surgeon in September. Any thoughts?

Sarah,
My stoma is wide open due to a problem I encountered at six months out so I can eat a lot at one time. I have to be careful - but I really don't think I co uld eat six inch sub, much less a 12 inch. I know that I can eat more than most so I try to fill up on salad because of the low caloric count. I would definitely ask your surgeon about it.

Sarah--I have had two endocopies since my surgery. The first one was at the hospital where I had my RNY performed by a gastro who had lots of experience with RNY people. The second time was with a gastro *****ally didn't have lots of experience with RNY
All I know is I feel like I can eat lots more since the second one. I have often wondered if maybe something got stretched. What I keep telling myself is just because I CAN eat something doesn't mean I should. I am absolutely convinced that the drinking makes a huge difference so I am back to not drinking.
Maybe your surgeon will have thoughts. If I was you I would keep a log of all food until then so you can have it when you have your appointment. Good luck Sarah.
My first endoscopy was done by my WLS and I remember the nurse telling me I was lucky there wasn't any scar tissue around the stoma, where some people have strictures because of scar tissue. The second one was ordered by my new WLS, and performed by the doctor she refers all her patients to. I am also concerned because I am still experiencing pain in my left side. It began occuring again when I was off of Protonix, but I've been back on it since April and even doubled the dose for 2 weeks and it didn't work.
Sarah,
Either be very careful till your appointment with your surgeon in Sept... careful = dont over eat too much and gain weight back... its HECK trying to lose again...
or second.. get that appointment asap if able to. Find out whats going on. Don't waste time and "gain back" weight waiting for your appointment....that seems like alot of food to take in but only your doc can be the true judge girl.. best wishes.

Yeah, no chance at getting the appointment sooner, I'll be lucky if they don't cancel on me again. My original appt. was May 23rd and I've been bumped twice. Then I find out the surgeon has been seeing new patients...what the h*ll, if you can't see your established patients why are you seeing new ones? And I AM going to ask her about that!!! I've gained about 20lbs since April, and with my legs my weight can easily fluxuate 10lbs within a week. But I never gained that quickly before I had surgery, eating a lot more and a lot worse.
Sarah,
I too can eat large amounts of food. I have not had a scope yet. As of right now I'm able to stop myself when I think I've had enough but I'm concerned that my willpower will fade. I'm trying to eat "drier" foods to make it stick, seems like if it's a juicy steak or juicy chicken I can pig out all night, but if it's like dry deli meat I eat less. Anyways, good luck and please let us know what your doc says next month.

At 19 months I could not eat even half of a six inch subway. Obviously I think you are eating too much, but some say I eat too little.
I'd suggest you start logging your food on Fit Day and figure out how many calories you are eating. My surgeon allows (800-1200) on maintenance then if we continue to lose he increases the calories. If you aren't getting a full feeling from eating you need to just decide how much is enough and quit eating.
We all became overweight from eating the wrong foods and too much food. Don't slide back into that pattern. Food should be for nourishment, not for pleasure.
This probably isn't the answer you wanted to hear but I've tried to be honest. We each have to work out a plan that works for us. Don't let another day go by without addressing the problem.
Trust me I've been around long enough to know the risks of posting about what I eat. I didn't mention it in this post, but I am also experiencing dull pain and nausea throughout the day in the area of my stomach. So while I know, it's up to me to just not eat so much, my concern and reason for the post was to find out if anyone else had been able to do this, is it just common to be able to eat this amount so far out...or might something be wrong. And I do know how I became over weight. It wasn't from 12 inch turkey subs, it was from 14-18 inch whole pizzas, boxes of mac and cheese...and daily fast food. I am not anywhere near that.
