First...hello everyone, I was feeling a bit loney and decided to post. I have been on this site for nearly 4 years and have been "shunned" from a few different forums. (I wont call any names) This forum caught my attention by the title so as a graduate, here is my question. Do you feel that because we ARE at goal, other WLS patients, both pre and post op dislike us. Dislike is a strong word...I want to say envy...In the beginning, we were all one. Then as some of us did our thing, we became divided. Discrimination amongst obesity. I think that is the lowest form discrimination. Has anyone else experienced this? It really started happening when some of us would lose 100+ pounds right away. That is when I noticed the little greeneyed monster. All I get now is very nasty attitudes. Please tell me I am not alone...Please tell me this forum understands. Christmas Baby

Oh Joann--I hope you take this with the fun it is meant--but I clicked submit on my post and then the thread came back up with "joulas". I'm thinking what is that? Honest to goodness--trying to figure out what disease they had. Now I get it--jealous! Dah! I am a little slow sometimes Ya know my husband and daughter are two of the smartest people I know and neither one of them can spell either.

I think you might just have hit the nail on the head with the jealousy thing. I guess I just don't understand why we, as Obese and "formerly" obese people have to be so flippin mean and rude to each other just because someone is farther along on their journey. We all started somewhere didn't we? Haven't we all experienced the discrimination at some point or another? Why would we do it to each other? I just don't get it myself. I believe that until I am perfect (yeah, like that's going to happen ) then I have no basis to judge anyone else, even if I don't necessarily agree with their view points on things or if they do something differently in their journey than I do. Nor do they have the right to judge me because I eat carbs, or supplement protein, or stand on my head, or whatever. So there you have it. Just my simple opinion. Hang here my friend, you'll find that everyone's very nice. (again my opinion, but then heck, we all have one ) Have a super afternoon... Fanny

Welcome to the Grads forum. Ok--I am not really at goal, but close and I'd love to throw my two cents in because I am like that-lol. I think that lots of discrimation for all groups has to do with insecurities and people feeling threatened. Almost 10 years ago my family and I travelled the country and we noticed that each region of the country seemed to have a group which is prejudged and put down. Where I was from in Maine it was French Canadians, in Boston at one time it was the Irish, down in Florida it seems to be the Mexicans (I think it may have been Cubans for a while)--and I am sure it is that way in other parts of the country too. American Indians seem to be the group in several other parts of the country. It's funny--when we lived in Maine we lived in a really nice neighborhood and often teachers at school would make comments that weren't very nice about people who lived in our neighborhood. I remember my son coming home very upset because he had words with the teacher--saying hey my parents worked really hard and were able to achieve a certain amount of success--certainly that doesn't make them bad people. It's the same way here--jealousy/insecurities cause hard feelings sometimes. Oh and one more thing--we have all experienced discrimination being MO--I think some of us suffer from different strange personality issues possibly because of this treatment. Just my musings on the subject. Nice to see ya.

WOW...Thanks you...what you have said is a MOUTHFUL... TROLLS...they are definitely out...everywhere....I thought I was the only one that noticed em...they have definitely moved from under the bridge.. I really appreciate all of your comments. It just really gets to me that in the beginning we could all just GET ALONG...you know. We all had the ONE THING IN COMMON...OBESITY. We could all relate, but as soon as one person changes physically and can wear a size 10, 8, 4 or 6 or whatever...it is like HATE CITY. I am sure we have all experienced some type of discrimination, but I have HONESTLY never experienced it like I have due to my OBESITY. Once someone finds that I was once over 400 pounds, something changes. It is like INSTANT attitude towards me. That awful feeling of rejection comes right back after all my hard work in therapy. Anyway, thanks for the welcome to this forum and I do feel I have something in common here and will continue to support and post. Christmas Baby

You are right Christmas--there is one thing all the "normals" agree on--we, the MO, are lazy, ignorant slobs. It is the last acceptable discrimination.
