The ASBS foundation last year did an abstract on this subject and they say that the calcium citrate is the most readily absorbed by us. I have the abstract on my other computer is anyone wants a copy just email me. Darlene

My surgeon says he's looked at all the studies and has seen no proof that one form of calcium is better than the other. He recommends Tums but does not care if we take citrate. I too hedge my bets by taking the Calcium Citrate + D. Rather be safe than sorry just in case there is anything to the theory that citrate is better.

I am just happy that someone gave me the advice to stop drinking carbonated drinks after surgery. I have not missed them at all. I am happy to eat my protein first. Do I get it in first EVERY time I eat? NO, but I try to eat it first. Why would I do anything that would possibly cause me to gain back my weight? I have lost 104 pounds, and I am not finished! I want to lose more. I want to have LONG TERM weight loss (for the REST of my life)! I don't care if the knowledge is fact or fiction. Bring on the wisdom so that I will lose more weight. This thread really makes you think! Love, hugs, and happiness, Tammy

WLS Grad site has had some GREAT threads recently. Thanks to all of you who start them. Let's get real about WLS, finally! I think pre-ops and newbies really ought to read these too. The question that gets me most from newbies is, "Is this normal" or "Am I doing OK". What, pray tell, is "normal". I have not been able to find any reliable statistical data on what is normal or average for WLS patients. To be reliable, there would have to be a central clearinghouse for collecting and anaylzing statistical data, with standards for how information was collected and reported by surgeons, which in turn would mean patients would have to be good about regular followup with their surgeon, and accurately report any WLS related issues that their PCPs dealt with. That might result in averages, but is an average truly normal? Are we so similar in our physiology and the choices we make for eating and exercising that "normal" would apply? One of the most important things I had to realize in this journey was that what I'm doing is required for the rest of my life. I wasn't in a race; this wasn't a competition. This also wasn't a short cut to weight loss that provided any assurances that I would maintain the weight loss or good health. In fact, it was a rather long and difficult path that won't end until my days on earth have ended. Ann
