When I say that, I mean that new post ops malabsorb the most....from what I understand the farther out you get, your body compensates and you begin to absorb more than you did as a new post op.

Darlene, You caught my eye there----- "Year 4 started the worst of the vitamin def. " Did this crop up while you were taking your supplements? I take my vitamins, calcium and iron like It was the major sacrament of my religion. Curious to know if you had Vitamin Deficiency While taking yours, or did it pop up and Then you Got Extra serious about them? Best Wishes- Dx

We still malabsorb vitamins because of the area that was bypassed, but I think the poster was referring to the fact that our intestines adapt to absorb more food after awhile (bummer!) Linda

Hi Misha! I noticed we are from the same area and have the same surgeon. Dr. Marshall is excellent! I haven't seen you at a support meeting and just wanted to invite you back. 2nd & 4th Mondays ay 7pm - General Support - Riverplex downstairs 3rd Monday 6pm - 1yr out+ support - Riverplex upstairs. You might be going to the Friday morning meetings 9:30 - 11) which I can't attend. Congrats on keeping up your protein! You'll be happy you did. Last night at our 1yr out meeting we had a "new" 7 yr person speak about how she just discovered that drinking protein helped her energy level tremendously. She's been suffering from protein deficiency and hasn't been coming to the meetings to learn the "new recommendations" of protein and vitamins. Her mom had the surgery recently and that's how she learned about how protein could help her. Good luck! Deb

I haven't seen a lot of people "flame" or attack you. I have seen people offer a different view than you or disagree with what you have said but that in no way is a flame. I disagreed with you once but that doesn't mean I flammed you. For what it's worth, I enjoy your posts and think you are very helpful even tho at times we disagree. That is our right.

Misha, My Doc has had me on 95 gms protein -at the minimum Since day one. All I can say, "It's been working for ME, so far...." Yep, sometimes folks will get crazed if They are fishing for one answer And catch a different fish! Bod Pod? I'm slow. Catch me up on that. I'm assuming some Diagnostic test/device For calculating muscle mass or total body %? Best Wishes- Dx

Yes, it is a chamber you get into to be measured, body fat, muscle mass, and calculations to figure the metabolic rate. I was horrified to see that I lost more muscle than fat last year, despite my weight training, my hour long aerobic sessions (for the most fat burning of course...*sigh*) and my occasional protein shake against doctors wishes. If you go to bodpod.com it will show you the contraption.
