Hey Grads OK, Here's a thing That keeps popping up on the main-board That just Chaps my A$$! A newbie comes on Asking for protein drink advice... (No, this isn't the beginning of a joke- Two ducks walk into a bar...) So, Question about protein advice...yes? A large number of folks Drop tons of info- Unjury, Favorite Flavors, Susan Maria's site and such... Then there is this one person That takes the opportunity To "Go Off" about how they - "...don't have to use protein shakes!!!" Because of their specific "Procedure!" Basically doing a sales pitch for one type of surgery When the person was clearly just asking For Protein info. This same person "brags" about How they can eat all the Bacon they want! ("So can we all," I think, "but we refrain!") Then, looking into this person's profile?-- A story of more "bragging" About how they are able to eat Pecan Pie, Spaghetti, etc.... All because this specific, amazing, procedure Which is so much better than the one that most of us Poor "un-informed shmucks "settled for." Reading on through the profile?- Months of weight loss stalls, An overall weight loss of only about 50% Of the excess weight in over 17 months, Subsequent surgeries to deal with post-op complications, And all of it riding on waves of- "How great that I had the Uncommon Good Sense to have..." This particular Procedure. This same person that brags about getting All of the necessary protein from Being able to eat ANYTHING - (bacon is mentioned multiple times) This same person in the profile mentions having A low pre-albumin level. WTF? This is not the first such reply to a Pre-Op That was devoid of the information that the newbie Was actually seeking. At Best- The same person for the last year continually Jumps into posts that are inquiring about ANYTHING With the same- "My Dogs Better than their Dog..." sort of crap That doesn't serve the person asking the question at all! At worst- This person, and others like them, hop on with "Scare Tactic" sorts of stuff that would make you think That everyone who hasn't had this one particular procedure Is living a life of horror- They detail the constant vomiting, the "life on a diet", Continual "Life threatening Dumping," etc... This one "Bacon Reply" to a Protein Question, That got my dandruff up Is just one in a chain of 100's from this person. Now I'm bad to hop on with- "This is what's working for me so far...." But, I'm fairly realistic in knowing that it's "So Far." I've gone from 385(BMI 50.8) To 179(BMI 23.6) in less than 2 years, And have been holding here below goal For only about 5 months. I think of "my Journey" as a success, so far, Not because of those numbers, But because I'm ALIVE (luckily) And healthier than I've ever been. I still try to pass on to Newbies my info with the caveat of- "So Far, this has worked for me..." There are Some folks out on the Main Board, That jump in with the same, "This is the only procedure that makes sense..." crap, And they have been dolling out advice for the last 2 years And They haven't even had the Surgery yet!!! So hop by the main board and reply with some real info! I want nutrition advice from Someone who's Blood-work is Great, Not someone with a "low pre-albumin level" telling folks How Great it is not to worry about protein! I want "How has your Procedure Worked out for You?" advice To come from someone who has actually had Surgery! Am I crazy? Give me Food Nazis any day over such nonsense as this. Anyone here, that has made it to goal Without the amazing, specific procedure? Are you living a life of Horrible "Life Threatening Dumping?" And constant Vomiting? How are you able to muddle on through your poor miserable life? Do you have Any "Quality of Life" At ALL? How could that possibly be? PLEASE, Hit up the main board with Your Experience. Lord knows there are others out there Dispensing Some Mighty Smelly Poo! Sorry for the Venting Rant. Now - Two ducks walk into a bar with their restaurant cards And get smashed on a thimble of beer....... Best Wishes- Dx

Holy camoly DX--and here I thought you were a really nice mellow guy and then you go blowing your cover and posting thoughts that really follow my own. I agree with your entire post. It is frustrating. I have nothing against any surgery someone chooses to have. I debated for a very long time about the Lap-Band and still consider it a really viable option. I may have gone for the DS if I had known more about it at the time (probably not though as the malabsorption terrifies me). However--I find posts such as you describe frustrating. Just like when newbies post that it is all right to do things in moderation at 3 weeks out from surgery--Hello--look at who you are getting advice from and see if they are successful--long term and take their advice--not someone pre-op or just a little ways out of surgery who happens to agree with you. Okay--I really won't rant--but I will mention that there was a lap-band person who always came on the main board and posted about how great her surgery was and how happy she was blah, blah, blah. Somehow I stumbled across her profile the other day and was noticing she hardly lost any weight at all. Her band had a malfunction which basically stopped it from working. Like I said b4--I really like the band--think it is probably the way of the future of wls--but no one surgery is perfect and we all have to be honest about the plusses and minusses and not just bash others. Have a great day! Over to check out the main board, but to lazy to proofread--hope what I've written makes sense.

Lynda, "Mellow?" If by that you mean- "Seemingly Stoned," then that's a fair assessment! I come peeking out from under my "covers" often. Somehow such a whacked reply Just got on my last nerve yesterday! The main board needs some straight shooting replies Not the bickering -petty crap that keeps hopping on For no apparent reason. Now, Back to "Mellow Guy" Mode.... Best Wishes- Dx

Hey Margo, I'm also having Protein in a Big Ole Mug of Starbuck's De-Caf Sumatran right now. Ummmmmmm..... Not dense at all, just lucky to have missed The daily "sales pitches" coming from some Of the Folks out there. You, having "lost your way" for a bit And then finding your way back to "morning protein," Have more to offer than some who've never Faced a trial in their journey. Yes? So come out from under that Chair and Share! Best Wishes- Dx

The Illuminati who patrol the main board, are consumed with missionary zeal and have been being called, yea, even anointed to save others from a trip through life with an obviously inferior form of WLS. Their crystalline hearts are pure. They only want people to be as smart as they are. Remember the burden under which they labor: they must live on this same celestial coil as the underlings. Walk in their shoes for a moment. Being oh so smart comes natural to them; why is it so tough for others? Sighs of exasperation are a part of every breath they draw. And even though they are rebuffed again and again at every term, still they persist, drawing comfort in knowing that at the end of the day, righteousness and truth shall prevail and they will be vindicated in the Final Judgment. They come to the vineyard again and again, to stand a beacon of truth in a land of darkness, to hoist the guidon for others to follow, making themselves the target of the evil ones, knowing in the end even saving one fool from a life lived with an inferior form of WLS makes all the sacrifice worthwhile. DX, so rather than castigate these people, let us join together and recognize them for the sacrifices they make on behalf other, less superior folks . They ask so little in return, except that others prostrate themselves and venerate them as being smart enough to be the recipients of an obviously superior form of WLS. We should anoint our heads with bacon grease, its odor rising up with our praise of them who deign to dwell in our midst ..... ...... (I love writing this stuff....) Another good reason to avoid the main board... PH

PH, I'm really not castigating them, Just putting out an open call For clever writers such as you To make some space on the Main Board For some sound info to balance out the Steaming piles of Silliness. (glad you love writing such fun...) Best Wishes- Dx

welp, I went to the main board and posted in a thread from a man that was angry that one of his friends told him that he should be supplementing with protein shakes...his doctor told him that he didn't need them and after all he gets 80 grams of protein at a whole 2 months out.....HELLO!!!! New post ops malabsorb!!!!! Ugh, I related to him how my bod pod last week showed that I had lost considerable muscle despite my extensive aerobic and weight lifting routine. I got flamed. So, I am through with the main board and giving new post ops advice they don't want! They can continue to talk about restaraunt cards, and cry over why they have only lost 50 pounds in a month!
